I LOVE YOU, I LOVE THIS SITE, I LOVE LIFE, (thonks head) I HAVE A MUCOCELE, lol, I noticed this lump in my mouth about 2 weeks ago and i pretty much started planning my funeral. So many times i wanted to Google but i was afraid of what was going to come up. Today was a different day, and Thank God it was. I was really depressed thinking of this damn lump that i couldnt take it any more, soooooo, off to the pc i went. I sat down and stared at the pc, said a prayer, bit my nails down to nothing then i turned on the pc, whew, step one was over, then i went to step two, clicking on the google shortcut i have on my desktop, Why does it seem when you want something to come up fast it takes forever and well guess what, yesssss, it was up like in half a second (damn that dsl) lol, ok, step 3, now thinking of how to word it, ok, lump in mouth, sounds pretty easy, so i type it in (verrrrrry slowly) heart pounding, sweat dripping, 15 minutes later, i press enter...............eyes shut, i imagined the word cancer all over the screen. Please God, i am only 38, i promise to be good, and then i open my eyes, VOILA, there was a website that said lump in mouth, *GULP* here we goooooo, the word mucocele came up, hmmmmm, that doesnt sound too bad, so i started reading more and more, THANK YOU FOR YOUR MESSAGE BOARD, (oh and pics too) about 5 tons of pressure fell off of my back as i read on. I called my hubby and told him what i had, he was so happy that i was so happy, he always said it was nothing but who would've known he would be right for once? lol, well i am glad he was, lol, now we are going out to dinner and a movie to celebrate my re-birth, lol, I cant thank you enough, but, BUT, what would happen if i dont have it cut out? and is it contagious? just curious, luv to you for giving me my life back, Susie

Susie, I'm glad you're so excited at your findings! If I were you, I would still go see a doctor (preferably an ENT or oral surgeon) and have them double check for you. I also figured out what I had before I went, so the appointment was a breeze. As far as leaving it in your mouth, from what I've read elsewhere, it is removed purely for cosmetic reasons. Also, they're usually casued by trauma, so it's nothing contagious, unless you bite your husband! If you're worried about the removal being painful, don't be! I am the biggest wuss and I felt absolutely nothing at all. It really was easy as pie.

I'm glad for you too, I'm 39 and my oral surgeon commented he often see these in kids! I too thought it was oral cancer for sure.. and I'm embarassed to say I do cancer research and knew it didn't fit the bill, but the idea still lived strongly in my mind! I bit my lip sneaking my daughters easter candy!! The surgery is a breeze and I learned one reason to have them removed is if you keep biting the same spot, they can get even bigger and can become irritated. Thats what happened to me. It would shrink and I'd be thinking it was going away and then I would some how irritate it (eat for example) and its grow right back and get red and sore around it. good luck, Michelle
