hey!! okay thanks so much for that mucocele thing online. i predicted the lump in my mouth was a mucocele but nobody believed me!! even my jerk orthodontist dr. cmmings told me to just poke it and burst it and that it would go away. so i did, like an idiot, and it went away but reoccured after like 1 day, only to grow back even larger!! by this time it was becoming noticable and i begged my dad to take me to the doctor. he referred me to an ear, nose, and throat surgeon (go figure why i didnt go to an oral surgeon) and my doctor was so nice! he explained everything and said i had 2 choices: i could be awake but have my lips numbed during the surgery or i could go under ansthesia and be knocked out the whole time. i chose the seond one, obviously, because the thought of being awake and feeling the tugs of my lip being cut into terrified me. so anways, i am sooooo glad i chose the second option, because the surgery was so easy and even kind of fun!! needles scare me so much so the nurse gave me some valium to relax me. let me tell you, valium is some fun stuff!!! i felt like my eyeballs were in slow motion and everything seemed hilarious so i was giggling for like 6 minutes for no apparent reason. next, they wheeled me into an operating room and strapped me down into a bed (as if i would try to escape like a wild animal, ha ha), and let me emphasize WITH NO WARNING, they injected that ansthesia stuff that knocks you out. they started asking me all kinds of questions and the last thing i heard before i blacked out was "she's not falling asleep, let's get her an extra dose..." lol. then before i knew it, i woke up in a completely different room and felt a tiny tiny soreness on my lip but nothing bad AT ALL. the nurse gave me juice and after an hour of sleep i went to the restroom to look at my lip. omgsh it was pale and all stitched up!! but i was just glad it was over and done with. then i went home after they wheeled me out (kind of wierd to be wheeled around) and i went home and slept some more. so now its about 14 hours later and my lip feels fine, the paleness is gone, and im only a little drowsy. i chose not to take any pain medicine and i was fine. the only thing i would complain about is the stitching feels like wire and tastes funny in my mouth. otherwise IM SO GLAD I GOT THAT STUPID MUCOCELE REMOVED!! now i can go on with my life.
i hope this helped you. if a needle phobic 15 yr old can get through it, SO CAN YOU!

Thanks for the great story bonita. Your surgery sounds super involved. I would have been more afraid of being put to sleep than the option I chose of just simple lip numbing (actually, I don't think they offered to put me to sleep). I guess you have to pick your poison though.
