Is Surgery A Cure Or Just A Treatment?

I personally don't know if I can answer your question, but since you acknowledged biting, chewing, and removing it yourself...I have a question for you. Have you ever bit into one and had your lip swell by great amounts? I am in a world of trouble.

GreenEyes, I've never heard of a mucocele just reappearing after surgery, UNLESS caused by trauma to the lip again. If you're constantly biting your lip you may cause yourself to get another mucocele in the future if you bite hard enough.

Here's wha tmy doctor told me - after reading several posts, I kind of wonder if other people got the same "treatment" that I did. My Dentist tole me that a mucocele is a blocked salivary gland, basically. And the only way to CURE it is to remove the salivary gland! Which is precisely what he did. He DID tell me that these things tend to reapear - but obviously not in the exact same spot since there is no salivary gland to get blocked! Make sure your dentist actually removes the gland, not just the mucocele! Good luck!

My doctor told me there was a 10% chance that it would re-occur; however, he has never had a patient with a recurring mucocele. (He's been removing them for over 30 years.)

About 3 years ago my daughter (who is now 6) had a large Mucocele sergically removed from the side of her lower lip by her ENT. Last month she developed a new one on her lower lip again, then another , then another. I have taken her to her regular doctor and now her dentist. As of this morning, she has 8 in her mouth (her cheek, under her tounge and on her lower lip). Her dentist is talking about "opening" them up so they can drain, better this time. Not sure if they will come back.
