Alternative Removal Procedures?

Hi, I was just diagnosed with a mucocele on my lower lip today. It's been there for about 6 weeks, and for a good chunk of that time I've been on and off a liquid diet to try to avoid biting it while chewing. (Very painful and unpleasant, for those of you who haven't tried it! I don't recommend it.) While searching the web for information on mucoceles, as I'm sure most of us newly diagnosed mucocele victims are doing, I did see brief mention of some surgical alternatives including laser removal, cryosurgery, and I think electrocauterization. Has anyone talked to their doctor about these options, or have one scheduled? If I can have it removed with less trauma to my lip, I would certainly like that. Dave, the surgery pictures you posted kind of freaked me out! But I have to admit the two-week post-op pic looks pretty good.

I don't know anything about the alternative treatments, but I can also say that the pictures freaked me out a bit. It even crossed my mind to just live with the lump forever because I am such a wuss. BUT, I can honestly say that the surgery was no where near as terrible as I imagined. I felt absolutely nothing and just kept my eyes closed the whole time. The stiches were the kind that dissolved, and they started to fall out within a week but my incision was just fine without them. (I'll even admit to eating steak a few days after... though it's not recommended!) Anyway, I suppose what I'm saying is that if it's just the pictures that are freaking you out about the surgery, don't let them, because it really is an easy, quick, and painless procedure.

Hi-
I had a mucocele removed this past Thurs with a laser. I would recommend this over the procedure the photos show. You don't have to have stitches and there is very little bleeding if any. I didn't feel a thing. I just had to have nococaine to have this done and it took about 15 minutes. I'm three days out and have a tiny bit of swelling and discomfort but nothing big at all. I'm a chicken when it comes to dental issues so if I can stand this anyone can. It sure beats leaving the mucocele in! My dentist is Advanced Dental Group—www.smilenorwalk.com.
