Hey guys,
i came across this site when i was concerned about the lump that had been in my mouth for several months. first of all let me say how thankful i am for this website. as many other people have said the only other information on the net led me to believe i had oral cancer! then i found this site. yaaay.
in any case the lump just kept getting bigger and bigger and ive been chewing on it a lot and it gets more swollen. so since i knew that it was mucus i took a pin to it today. i was able to drain it dramatically however there is DEFINITLY still a lump there. its not a cure at all. Im still going to have it surgically removed but the good news is that its a lot smaller for the time being. i just wanted to shre that with you guys! thanks again for this awesome site!

I was doing this for about a year before I got on an insurance plan. If you are going to continue, make sure you sterelize whatever you're popping it with. I bought a box of sewing needles, sterilized before using and threw it out after one use.
Infections are serious and can make your problem much worse than it is.

I drained mine a couple times, too, but it always came back until surgery.
Just a note also, my surgery was June 12 (it is now the end of September) and I still have numbness (the dr said it was nerve damage) in my lip where they cut, my mucocele (on my lower lip) was large though and they had to cut the roots out of the floor of my mouth. Something weird, when I brush my teeth (minty cool sensation) or chew ice (coldness), the feeling goes down that nerve and it feels like there is a hole in my lip lol It was pretty disconcerting at first!!

Thanks for replying guys...
yea i have had to drain it again and i have used sterilized pins as well but right now theres a bit of white skin on the top. i think its just dead skin because i always rinse with listerine after i drain it. it doesnt hurt at all but i just cannot wait until i have this thing removed. its just a huge pain in the butt. im glad to know that you guys drained it too- it had just gotten so large and unbearable i didnt see any other option. in any case, thanks again for your responses!

I had a dermatologist look at mine and she said there is no point trying to lance/drain it. If it makes it smaller so you can cope with it easier, then I guess keep doing it if you want. But it won't actually help it go away. My own attempt at lancing it with a sterilized needle was completely unsuccessful. It bled a little, but no fluid came out and it didn't go down.
