Had surgery today & no stitches. What the?

Has anyone else had the removal and let the gash heal naturally? I had a mucocele removed today and I asked for the stitches but my ENT said it wasn't needed. The incision is about 3/4" long and DEEP. When I make certain faces, like smiling, it spreads open. I'm not sure how the heck this is going to heal.
Ouch!!! I had stitches with mine... I would think it would take longer to heal without stitches. Do you have an appt for a follow up visit?
Just to update, the hole from the surgery healed quickly without the stitches. It was sort of amazing to see how quickly the human mouth heals itself. My friend says that this area is the fastest healing part of the body. But anyway, it sucked for the first day as any time i smiled or laughed I could feel the hole opening. Then, over the course of the next few days the hole seemed to push together. Now, it's just a scar line.
Another note: The edge of my lip was numb after the surgery. Each day it regained more sensation. Today(about one week later) it is at about 90%
The surgery was totally worth all of the inconvenience though. My wife hated when I touched my lip out of habit. Now she has one less thing to complain about.
