Folks,
I live in India and noticed this lump in my mouth about six months ago. I was a bit worried but when web searches threw up matching oral cancer symptoms and I gasped 'Why me God'! I had a beautiful wife, two sons, a great job, was a non-smoker and never chewed tobacco. I was ready to write my will. It was when I stumbled upon this site and I let out a 'Hurray' and life was just beautiful again.

I went to my dentist(instead of the oncologist I was ready to consult) and she was surprised and asked me 'how do you know it is a mucocele?'. She used some instrument and blunted my canine teeth and asked me to come back later. To cut it short (forgive the pun), I got my mucocele removed yesterday.

It took about 45 minutes, the surgeon gave me about 5 local injections so I did not feel any pain except I could feel when he was scraping or cutting. It was a bit of a hard one apparently but he took out a lumpy gooey blob covered in blood and dripping saliva. He also showed me couple of small salivary glands attached. Anyway, he has sewed it up now with about 6-7 stitches. Now right side of my lower lip is a bit puckered and out of shape. He said it will be return back to normal after a month or so. I hope it does and my face will not look like I had a palsy or stroke.

The doc gave 3-4 medicines including antibiotics, painkillers etc for about three days. It does hurt while eating, brushing teeth etc. Smiling and laughing really hurts. My right lower cheek has swollen also a bit I guess. I look forward to the day when I can eat, smile and laugh normally.

Many people are convinced they have something deadly, like a cancerous tumor, when they first get a mucocele. What a relief to find out it's just an inconvenience, eh? Glad you got rid of yours.
