I just found out the lump on my lip is a mucocele (which I had for over a month now from biting my lip when eating). My parents believe that rubbing salt should help ease the lump (they say it helps them, but they admit they never had one as big as mine) and I've read people recovering from eating salty foods (from this forum).
Anyway, I will most likely get it surgically removed, but I am still curious about this salt thing. So does the salt actually do anything?
I'll probably keep trying it (since I won't be removing it until the end of the year because of my final year exams) until the operation.
Anyway help would be appreciated (great site btw ^^)

Salt... Does it actually help?

It did nothing for me. It all depends on whether the mucocele is caused by blockage or irreversible trauma. My ENT suggested rinsing with salt and water, so your parents are on to something. But I got hit in the face, which caused my mucocele, so rinsing all day did nothing for me. If your mucocele just appeared, then you have a chance with the salt. According to my ENT, he had one and it went away naturally after a few weeks of rinsing.
Oh ok, thanks for that. At least I now I know there is some success behind it (although I'm still curious of the basis on how it works). I'll keep trying it, but I doubt my large one will go away due to my excessive biting when eating via my 2 canines (which are the two sharpest teeth in my mouth - sharper than my other two for some reason).
I guess I can still hope lol
Either way, I can't have an operation until after November (It just had to be my finaly year of school *rolls eyes*)
