hey everyone,
and thank you to David for creating this forum!
it's funny how it seems like no one else in the world knows what you're talking about when you describe a lump in your mouth... i called mine "tongue ball" (it was on the bottom right side of my tongue). at first i thought it might be something to do with drinking or smoking, so i quit both immediately. i was 20 at the time. i had it for 5 or 6 months and went through a couple of dentists and a couple of oral surgeon's before i found someone that i felt actually knew what i was talking about... i had searched and searched on the internet, and i had figured out that it was a mucocele, and that i needed my sublingual gland removed.
that was a year ago, and it hasn't come back. i do however, have a small 'cut' under my tongue that won't seem to go away. sometimes it gets a little white if i've been itching it too often (it itches quite often). a lot of the nerves in my tongue surrounding the area of the surgery had been killed off, or crossed, but that was to be expected. it was just sort of itchy under there at first, and what appeares to be a very small ulcer has formed... i'm not sure exactly. has anyone else experienced anything like this? i had a dentist appointment this summer, just for a cleaning, and i mentioned it and he didn't seem too worried about it... but i'm thinking about calling the surgeon that did the surgery, to ask him about it. i've moved since the surgery, so i'd have to find a new oral surgeon. does anyone here know of a good oral surgeon in nyc?
anyway, it's nice to know that you guys are here... i always tried to play it off like it wasn't really that big of a deal, but having a lump on my tongue was one of the scariest things i've ever experienced. fortunately, with a mucocele, it's mostly a mental struggle and not a physical one.
thanks!
jake.
