I have had this disgusting thing under my tongue for about 3 months now. It goes through cycles of getting large, then i pop it, then it fills up again. It has been many different colors since it started...from yellow to blue to purple. At its fullest, it's the size of a jellybean. Pretty much, just disgusting. Well, today, the top of my neck, like, right under my chin started hurting, and I could feel some lumps under my chin, so that finally made me go. I went to my family doctor, and he referred me to an oral surgeon, who then told me what is going on. He told me that the pain in my neck is probably my lymph nodes trying to drain the extra fluids. Also, he told me that by popping this myself, it may have gotten deeper than if I would've just left it alone. He said that it would be very invasive to go in and cut it out...that it is probably very deep and he would be nervous about cutting blood vessels and whatnot.
This is kind of where my question comes in. He said he was going to marsupialize the mucocele. (At least I think that was the word.) But he explained it as cutting off the top of the mucocele so that all of the saliva and mucus can drain out that hole. He said that he would not close up the hole, but leave it open. This really makes me nervous about the procedure. I guess I just don't really understand how this all is going to work. So, if anyone has had this done, I would really appreciate it if you could maybe share your experience, so that I could maybe understand this better. Thank you!
