I've had mine for about a week and I've self diagnosed myself with the help of this forum. I went to my local medical health center and even told the doctor what I had, which wasn't a mere "canker sore" the nurse had thought.
It began as a bubble, which then ruptured, leaving a small white dot. The dot has since healed but I'm left with the mucous bump still.
My doctor refused to slice or remove anything, giving me a set of antibiotics and anti-virals that should try to interally help keep the bacteria down, hopefully decreasing the size. I haven't read of anyone taking medicines as treatment...does this work?
I guess it's worth a shot. My doctor said she didn't want to make an incision yet until the medicines didn't work.

Your doctor prescribing antibiotics sounds really odd. I mean, that's a doctor, so they probably know more than I, but I would consider getting a second opinion, or maybe a referral to an oral surgeon...or ask your dentist.
Do dentists do the actual removal procedure?
