So, after finally finding the link to lumpinmouth.com, I'm 100% sure that this huge nasty balloon in my lip is indeed a mucocele. I will probably see my pcp within a week to have it removed. Great! Before finding this site however, I only recognized the ugly thing as nothing more than a sac filled with pus just itching to get out. With my mouthwash by my side, I heated a thumb tack over an open flame (thanks microbiology 101 for the tip in asceptic technique), cleaned the any soot off with purified water, then recleaned the sharp portion with some Purell anti-bactial lotion just for completeness sake- not a bad artillery for just spontaneously wanting to pop something in your mouth....haha
So, with one hand I tried to bring the mucocele to a head and make the small outer layer of skin nice and taut. I next attempted to apply the sharp end of the tack directly through the lump. I surprisingly found that I had to apply a great deal of pressure to break the skin. Where I was expecting a pus storm, I got nothing more than a squirt of a yellowy mucous followed by an inordinate amount of blood. ugh.....dissapointment. Fortunately, the next day the sac was refilled and I got to do the same thing all over again- this time there was tons of mucous..AWESOME.
