First off, let me thank Kadavy for his efforts in creating this site to enlighten those of us who think on the worse side of our oral problems. When I first developed my mucocele after trauma in a soccer game and continued biting afterwards (about a year and 3 months ago), I was worried if this may turn malignant or was it a sign of some abnormal growth on the inside of my lower lip. After reading this, among other medical opinions, my parents and I finally resolved to go to an oral surgeon (D.MD? Idk) which went decently.
I didn't need general anesthesia, just localized, so I stayed awake and watched, through a mirror in the course of half an hour, my lip get cut open and the doctor carefully remove the salivary glands and the cysts that grew. It turned out there were 2 mucoceles, 1 on top of the other bigger one. No problem, as he just removed the bigger one. It's been 2 weeks now, there is no more pain, and certainly no more mucus :P, but I have a slight bit of scar tissue that hasn't gone away, seemingly. I may return to him to ask about it after the semester is over and I go home, but it is definitely an optimistic side of things. Better a little bit of a hard lump than a big annoying cyst to bother you 24/7.
As always, thanks to those who have generously provided information in this site, especially Kadavy. If any of you are in the Dallas area and require surgery, I recommend Dr. Garrett Nelson.
