Hello to all,
Thank you for all those who write in to post- what a relief to find this site!
I had mine removed 2 days ago... the swelling has gone down, but there is still a lump at the surgical site where the mucocele was, but now of course with stiches on it.. will that go down? how long will it be before my lip looks 'normal'. I'm sad because I expected after the surgery for it to be flat where the mucocele was, but it looks the same size even after removal.
They put me on antibiotic to prevent infection, and Medrol for anti-inflammatory(steroid).
Please please anyone who has had there's removed, can you post/email me a detailed description of what you went thru during healing stages, what to expect the first week before stitch removal, will it go down by then? And what to expect weeks after stitch removal, how long before I look 'normal' again. How long should I expect swelling to last?I'm hoping the lump there is because it's still swollen, but I'm worried because my lip swolleness has gone down, but the lump hasn't.
**Did anyone's mucocele location still have a lump immediately after surgery where the stitches are, or did the mucocele lump look gone and flat immediately after surgery?**
Help- I have no idea what to expect or if I am freaking out for no reason. All responses would be greatly appreciated. I'm worried that the surgery didn't do anything.
Like most of us here, I have never even heard of this mucocele thing until it happened to me. Thanks everyone- the support here is amazing and much needed!

Hi angel. I had a bit of a lump from where the stitches were, too. It gradually went away and was gone in a few months. It is possible for a salivary gland to get disturbed from the surgery and turn into another mucocele though, but you'll have another unmistakable lump if this is the case. If you aren't sure, I don't think there would be any harm in waiting a few weeks to see if your lump either heals, like scar tissue, or gets bigger, like a mucocele.
Hi Kadavy,
Thanks so much for your reply, and for still helping out those who are going thru this even when you have healed from the experience- it definitely helps other.
It's been a long 5 days post surgery and I've been spending my time importing all my cds into itunes and trying not to stare in the mirror- as if I would see the swollen lump go down- LOL.
The top of my lower lip shape looks lopsided- asymmetrical -did you experience that too? You are now the more experienced 'past mucocele' survivor, have you healed with any 'visible' difference, can you actually 'see' any lump/scar tissue raised that is visible when you talk, smile, etc? Is the shape of your lip and symmetry differnt than before the 'attack of the mucocele'?
