My 8 year old had her mucocele removed yesterday....

All is well, and it went exactly as expected -- thanks to this blog! She had this "bump" inside her lower lip forever. The first time I noticed it I whisked her off to the pediatrician, who told me it should go away on its own, but if not to talk to an oral surgeon about removing it. She never complained about it, so I forgot about it for months at a time, but it didn't go away. Anyway, her dentist referred us to an oral surgeon to remove it, and it was a quick and easy procedure. My daughter is very sensitive and frightens easily, and she was a real trooper throughout. They gave her laughing gas, then novacaine shots. The doctor snipped it off and opened up 4 or 5 potentially blocked salivary ducts, then gave her 2 or 3 dissolvable stitches. All in, maybe 6 1/2 minutes. Her lip was numb for 3 or 4 hours after, then I had to give her Motrin because she was really complaining about the pain. She needed more Motrin later in the day, too. Her lip was initially very swollen from the Novacaine injected there, but that went away. She looked positively normal last night, but it was again puffy this morning -- her doctor told me to expect it to look like a "fat lip" for a few days, so I'm not worried. She was back at school today and did fine. We are giving her lots of soft foods for a while until she's healed a bit more, but we are on the road to recovery! I have no idea if my insurance will cover all or even part of this, but we'll see...
