Okay, long story short... I had a mucocele removed about 10 days ago on my lower lip. I also had what turned out to be a vascular blister of some sort
removed from my outer upper lip. Caused by trauma. Both benign. Nothing to worry about. Though I did freak for a week while waiting for the biopsy results- which they do as standard procedure... Anyway... swelling and pain in BOTH lips... stitches, etc... not fun. The stitches came out on their own accord, as well as with a little help from me after about a week. Now I have a couple bumps and tenderness left over. Swelling is down, but I feel a BB sized bump in my upper lip and a somewhat larger one in the bottom. When I called my surgeon to ask about it... he said there are HIDDEN stitches in boths sites, BELOW the surface stitches that fell out and that it would take about 10 more days for these stitches to dissolve on their own. ???
Anyone experience this? Anyone told the same thing?...
Thanks,
B

I had mine removed by a plastic surgeon yesterday. He used the same sort of hidden suture inside the wound as well as the surface stitches. The inside ones, as you said, should dissolve on their own. I'm glad I read this though, because I'm still in the puffy and painful stage, and I have a better idea of what to expect from reading this forum.
Let me know how it heals... I've now got a blood blister on the site where the incision was... could be a long time before it goes away unfortunately....

I wasnt told where my stitches all are or if there are any inside the wound...but it makes sence.
I hope they dissolve up quickly and the bumps go away!
Why must we be punished for biting our lips! Isn't the bite itself punishment enough...(I'm assumeing most people in here got thier mucocele from biting thier lips or other trama).
