Ok, I have been addicted to this site for 2 weeks now, fretting over my god awful and ever-growing mucocele.
Mostly fretting because I have no health insurance. So, I found a creative solution to what was a BIG problem.
I went to a free health clinic. They couldn't excise the mucocele there but they DID give me a shot of cortisone
to make the swelling go down. When they stuck the needle in, most of the mucus drained out. (gross)
I felt temporary relief. And by temporary, I mean about 20 minutes. The dang thing filled back up with pus --
but i noticed that it wasn't as HARD as it was before it was drained.
Here is the kicker....
I knew I should take advantage of the newly softened mucocele and went to a Walgreens and bought at $10 box
of canker-sore covers. They are little adhesive tabs that you place over the sore and as it disolves in your mouth,
it erodes the protruding skin. Well, three days later, my lip is still bump-free. I am not saying that the mucocele is
gone for good, but I can't tell you HOW HAPPY i am with how my lip is now. So, I would recomend (for those who are
also a little down and down on the health insurance) to drain with a needle and put a canker-cover on over night.
I'll post again if it comes back....little devil.

Awesome...this is the exact kind of thing I have been looking for. I also have no health insurance, and this darn lump is driving me up the wall. It has been around for months now, but never was a huge irritant until the last couple of weeks. My incessant need to mess with it has left it hard...almost like a lump of scar tissue in my mouth. I'm definitely going to have to try this method of yours out.
