I'm glad to have found this forum!
I noticed this strange fleshy protuberance in my almost 14-month-old daughter's mouth today, and it concerned me. Since her pediatrician's office is closed because it is the weekend, I posted a photo of it on a parenting forum to ease my worry. I was told it was a mucocele, which I had never heard of before, and that it would probably go away on its own. I sought out photos of mucoceles in children, and they look very much like the baby's growth.
Here is a photo link of my baby's suspected mucocele: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v460/yodergoaty/Poultry/growth.jpg
Is it indeed a mucocele? And, if so, what is the chance that it will subside on its own? Should I take her to her doctor Monday, even if it does not get larger? (I know this site doesn't take the place of a doctor's advice, but I'm just curious if I should hasten to the doctor as if it were an emergency.) It doesn't seem to bother her one bit, and I would feel silly if I took her to the doctor only to be told to ignore the mucocele and let it go away on its own!
Being an adventurous little toddler, I wonder if she will burst it on her own whilst playing and falling and clamboring about. I guess that is how she got it in the first place!
Does anyone here have experience with similar mucoceles and very young children?
Thanks for any advice!!

Yodergoat. No one here can give you medical advice. You need to see the physician. The
best that I could say from my minimal experience as a layman is that to me it looks like a mucocele.
Best of luck - let us know.

I agree with sport1, you'll need to take your daughter to the doctor to know for sure. I also think it looks like a mucocele, but I've only my own experience to base that on. Even if you were sure it was only a mucocele though, you should speak with your doctor about removal and the chances of it going away on its own. There was no way my mucocele was going away without surgery.
Best of luck!
