Well Ive been visiting this site on and off since i found out i even had a mucocole. I lived in San Diego when it popped out and about during that time I moved to this stupid state of Indiana where the population is on the lazy side. When the mucocole was removed I was told to avoid salty and acidic foods then i asked well what should i eat. She replied anything just avoid salty and acidic foods well people, EVERYTHING IS SALTY AND ACIDIC when a hint of salt just nipped my lip it swelled instantly and popped the stiches open then when i called to get it restiched they said its ok it will still heal like that. I KEEP SAYING I DONT WANT A LARGE SCAR LIKE A MILLION TIMES THEY DONT SEEM TO GET IT. !!!! NO ITS NOT OK now its going to have a huge scar this thing was flowerd open and swollen now there is puss in it. I also went and followed up with the oral surgeon to show him and he told me it looks fine. It should still heal. I dont think this redneck gets it. im thinking NO ITS NOT FINE ITS CONSIDERABLE MORE OPEN THEN WITH THE STICHING. Now the healing process has begun and my my cut is about 1/8 wide at the top just right where the lip skin meets the mouth skin im sure its going to show when i smile. Im so mad at this lazy freaking people im about to break my lease and go back to cali where at least on some level people take pride in thier work. I even heard the doctor tell the nurse to change his gauze and then she come in and said ok your good to go. I was like "didnt he tell you to change the gauze" she replied "ahhh its ok you can figure it out" Im like what kind of service is this. Anyways I was told to avoid salty foods because it burns but guess what? thats not the REAL reason. ITS SWELLS YOUR CUT SKIN AND WILL BREAK YOUR STITCHES. Also ive found more research that says eat ice cream and only eat foods you can put in the back of your throat and swallow.
Im really mad that i didnt do this in california. Everything is more expensive but everything is done right the first time. So far my experiance in indiana is that everything is done half *SS (not just the mucole but EVERYTHING IS DONE CHEAPLY) and the doc had an accent like he was raised in a barn.
Now I hope my smile comes back. Im allready a self conscious guy. I just started realizing in my early 20s I got a nice smile and that I dont smile enough. Im very worried that wont be the case anymore.
I will keep you posted on my progress. I got operated on the 5th.

Hey, sorry to hear about the way thiings are going and how things have been handled. My mucucele was maybe one-half inch down from my lip. The incision came up closer to the lip. After the surgery, I was concerned that maybe people would be able to see the incision when I smiled or even just while talking. It turned out not to be a problem at all, as the incision is not really even visible at all to me when I pull my lip down and look at it in the mirror, which I don't do much. My doc, I think, did an excellent job with the incision and with the stitching. The thing was completely closed up except for maybe the slightest of openings that would sting just a bit after I ate the first few days after the surgery. But I avoided real salty foods for two days and the thing closed up and I ate what I wanted from that point. It seems that some docs are just much, much better at cutting and stitching than others. So stick up for yourself at this point and insist that your doc make things right.
I really don't think it was the salt that did it. My Dr. told me to gargle with warm salt water to help he incision heal. After reading the posts about salt and how people think it affected their stitches, etc, I returned to the Dr. and he assured me that the salt would not cause that to happen and he had never had a case of that happening. Would you are describing seems like an allergic reaction of sorts if the tissue expanded enough to break the stitches.
