Came back from the oral surgeon few hours ago. Few weeks ago he cut out a mucocele that regrew within a week or two in the almost exact same location. Today he decided to completely knock me out and cut it out using a laser. Now I have a pretty large black gash behind the lower left molar. My mucocele was in a strange location - kind of behind the molar on the tissue connecting the upper and lower jaw.
No stitches and I need to go back for a control in a week.

Adam I have the same problem -- mucocele on the soft pallet! Can you tell me about how it was to be knocked out? I am fearful of having that happen -- why did he use he laser?
I am going to the ENT tomorrow and I will see what he says

Being knocked out was not a problem at all. Oral surgeons use more of a sedative so you still breathe on your own. Recovery was quick too. I was knocked out for 1/2 hour max. The surgeon started by giving me some laughing gas so I was very relaxed when the sedative kicked in.
He decided to use the laser due to the location of the mucocele. He said that using scalpel could be risky due to the nerves located in the vicinity of the incision. He also mentioned that with a laser he can really get in there and "burrow" up and around. Go figure.
