Hi, everybody. I had my surgery today and I wanted to share my story. I've had a mucocele for about 6 weeks. The reason I decided to get it out today was because almost everywhere I researched, I noticed that it wasn't going to go away on it's own. And, it got bigger, making me feel a little nervous speaking close to people. So, I decided to go in and get it out.
My doctor was excellent!!! He was extremely nice and considerate. He mentioned that he's done hundreds of surgerys for mucoceles, sometimes up to 2-3 a week. Most of his cases involved kids (accidents from sports or rough playing) and usually in the summer (I guess they have more time to play). So, he made me feel extremely comfortable. I felt like I was in good hands.
The doctor first put a gel like substance around the mucocele and then numb the lower lip with novocaine. The shot was the worst part. After that, everything was easy. Really easy. My doctor mentioned that I might want to close my eyes because there's lots of blood. I did. I kept them close for the entire 10 minutes. It was really fast. I was thinking it was going to be much longer. And, I didn't feel anything. Maybe a little prick with the stitches, but that was it.
After about 30 minutes, it did start to hurt. He prescribed some pain killers and I took them almost immediately. I've been eating soup and ice cream all afternoon. I just so happy its done and over. If I would have known it was this easy, I would have had it done weeks ago.
Thanks for reading! Good luck to anyone who goes in for surgery!
