My experience removing my mucocele with a razor blade

I have just cut out my mucocele, and am posting my experience here in case any of you are contemplating doing the same. The procedure was relatively painless, although I must say that there was a good amount of blood. I basically held the mucocele with a pair of pliers, with the tip of the pliers exactly situated at the base of the mococele. I then simply ran a razor blade across the front of the pliers, and the mucocele was out. Afterwards I put some cotton balls in my mouth, to help with clotting.

I must say that I would not recommend this procedure on the following points:

1. There is some amount of blood loss, and I do not believe that the cut would clot without gauze or cotton balls. That is to say, without the cotton balls, I am not sure that this cut would have easily stopped bleeding by itself.

2. After seeing the resulting cut, it is very likely that in a professional medical environment this cut would have been sutured/stitched. Failure to do this may lead to complications.

3. Although the cyst material appears to have been removed, I am unsure as to whether or not the culprit gland is still intact.

4. As with any wound, there is risk of infection.

With that being said, I will try and remember to come back here and post any follow up information.

Wow, that's crazy - thanks for sharing that. You probably weren't able to remove any surrounding glands either, so you may find one reappearing in that area soon. Please do keep us updated.
