Everything i've read/seen so far is pointing toward it being one of these dreadful things, but I just wanna hear other people's opinions, from other people who've had it or have it. Its been stressing me out.
So, i have this bubble that's on my inner lip. Its at the spot where I usually bite my inner lip when i'm eating. Its placed inbetween 2 of my teeth. I've bit that spot for years now, by accident of course, but this bubble only came about a month ago.
It's a clear bubble of some sort, that has a white top circle thing lid, kinda like a pimple. It gets pretty big, like the top of a pencil eraser. It pops on its own, or when i'm sleeping. The clear sticky liquid inside tastes salty, when it ruptures. It looks like it starts to heal for the next 4 days, turning almost as small as a pinhole. But then it starts to fill up again with the liquid, getting as big as the pencil eraser in the next 12 hours or so.
It only hurts when it gets big. It feels like the lip skin is stretching out or something.
Its maybe like a 5 day cycle where it grows big, pops, then goes small again. This is like the 4th time now it went small for me, but i can sorta feel that its gonna grow big again.
I went to the doctor as well, and she said it looked like a cyst of some sort. She said it would go away, and 3/4 weeks isn't long at all. Then she said a dermatologist or oral surgeon could get rid of it easily if it doesn't go away. But she didn't say it was a mucocele, or maybe she just didn't know what to call it? Is it one of these mucocele things?
thx

ya i think you have one. one thing we all have in common is that it started off by biting our lip accidently and then it forms.
i too have bitten the inside of my mouth many times, but i suppose this time was hard enough to ruptur the glands and thus came the mucocue.
i popped mines about a few weeks ago and it is no longer so large, its calm down quite a bit and usually gets big again soon afterwards but so far it hasnt.
that slimy stuff is disgusting! lol

Just an update
So, my doctor said, it would go away in a couple weeks. After about 6-8 weeks of blowing up and rupturing, i think it really is gonna go away! I think its popped about 5 or 6 times in total.
Right now, it just feels like a small crumb dot thing that i seem to lick a lot still. I just got used to it being there. Its still there, but it hasn't grown in a week now, and i have high hopes of it going away for good!
In a weird way, I miss it. But, i'm sooo glad that its gotten this far into healing. Lets hope it goes away for good and never come back.

mine did not occur on my lip, but on my soft palate. I had a tooth pick jab me, then the removal of my mucocele caused another...then the removal of that one caused another LOL..I'm learning to live with it.
can you tell when it's about to flare up?
I start to get a tingling thats how I know
I imagine it's much more uncomfortable on the lip

Cyst is the proper term for the mucocele so your doctor is right. There are two sorts of mucocle outlined here http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic274.htm .
Hope yours goes away on its own.

hi. Yeah, I can tell when its about to flare up. It starts to get a bit more sensitive. Also, it gradually gets bigger =P
Just an update, since the middle of November of my last post, it went away and never came back =) My lip is back to normal.

Sounds like a mucocele, but maybe you need to see an oral surgeon, plastic surgeon, or ENT. I first went to my dentist who didn't know what it was. When I went to see my oral surgeon - he knew right away what it was and we operated a few days later.
Mucoceles won't go away on their own for good. They may come and go, but until the salivary gland that it affected is removed, it will keep coming back.
Make an appointment!
