mucocele gone

Hi all!

I'm grateful for this site and I wanted to share my brief (thankfully) story.

A week and a half ago, I found a little bump on the inside of my lower lip with my tongue. When I looked at it in a mirror, it was a hard, clear bubble. "Great," I thought, "how weird. Better ask the internet." So I googled "clear bubble lip" and this site was one of the first I found. After some reading, it was pretty clear that I had a mucocele.

I dug through the forum and found that some people had been helped by salt. Deciding that that sounded like a simple place to start, I boiled some water, dissolved a bunch of salt into it, and took a small mouthful at a time, swishing it around in my mouth until all the heat was gone, then spitting it out. The whole process took a little while and my lip stung a bit afterwards from all the salt.

To my happy surprise, it worked! By the time I'd finished a full glass of water, the mucocele had deflated. It's been over a week now with no resurgence. I'm prepared for the fact that it might reappear, but I'm so glad that I don't have to go to a doctor or consider surgery for the time being.

Thanks, lumpinmouth.com!

Hey all.

I am also very grateful to have come upon this site.

I noticed the bump on Sunday, and of course went to web md, so see if I could be offered some advise, or at least a name of something I could tell my doctor or dentist.
Of course, web md basically said it was an abscess, which would be painful, or Cancer.
I didn't really sleep for two days.

Finally on Tuesday, I decided to do some further googling, and found this site, which made it abundantly clear I had a Mucocele. (I finally slept)

Looking closer at it, I decided it looked like something that needed to drain.
I disinfected my mouth, and a pin, and poked a hole in the bubble.
I applied a small amount of pressure, with a clean cloth, and warm salt water.
It drained a bit, enough to notice a small improvement.
I continued that night and the next day with the warm saline compress.
Over the last 2 days it's nearly gone.

I certainly can't suggest this, as everyones body reacts different to things, I went with how I knew my body. (I have experience in open wounds, oral and non, as I have over a dozen piercings.)

I can't stress enough that if you make the decision to try and do anything yourself, that you take the utmost caution in assuring everything is sterile.
(You're better off going to the doctor to assure this)

I plan to keep a close eye on it, and go to the doctor with any future negative change or reappearance.

On a side note, I have contacted the web md editors, and they will be reviewing Mucocele's for addition to web md, and hopefully less people like us will get a cancer scare.

Thanks
