Questions After Surgery

Hi, I've recently had my mucocele removed about 2 hours ago. I'm still slightly numb from the novocaine. But anyway, I was wondering about what i should and should not do while my mouth isn't fully yet recovered. I currently wear my retainers every night, and am skeptical about wearing them, since the metal was touch the incision location. Any ideas?

Also, i was wondering what i should eat... I've read around the forums and people said they ate soup a few days after surgery. Personally, i need meat to survive x___x but i'm worried that my wound would rip open.

Also, is using any mouthwash bad? i flush my mouth with listerine daily, and i don't want anything bad to happen to my wound..

Well... that's all my questions. Thanks so much for taking your time to read this post, and possibly answer my questions ^_^

PS any additional tips or Dos and Don'ts would be great!

I had surgey back in June of this year and I ate yogurt for the most part. I didn't have an appetite and it took about 3 days before I could really move my tongue with slight pain. Absolutely no meat because your tongue muscles work no matter how you try to avoid it and you will only make it a longer recovery. I was victim of this and ended up bleeding due to eating somefoods to soon. I didn't need re-stitched (I hope not) but it was painful and just as sore when I had surgery. Also, keep in mind that it may come back as mine has and now I am looking to have surgery once again. I have been told make sure your doctor scrapes the lining when they do the surgery to remove the lining because that's what is causing the cyst. If the lining stays it will most likely re-occur which is what happened to me, so this time I will make sure he scrapes the lining out. You will be completely healed in about 14 days, but after about 5 it shouldn't bother you too much. I hope all goes well for you

Hey, thanks for replying.
But yeah... i've just been eating soft/mushy foods so far. I tried meat... but i ended up either chopping it into REALLY tiny pieces, or not eating it at all. However, i don't believe i've bled due to any stretching. Its only been a little more than 24 hours after surgery, and my wound is nearly closed. I feel that by another day or two, i will be nearly recovered.

Hrm, about reoccurrence.. i should check back with my doctor about scraping the lining... Though i'm pretty sure that it's fine since i asked him if he's performed this surgery many times before.. Apparently, he's done it MANY times.

And, that's sad to hear that it's coming back =( i hope everything goes well for you too.

Thank you so much for replying, and good luck with getting rid of the mucocele. ^_^

I just had mine taken out yesterday. I have been eating soft foods. Frostys from Wendy's, Mac and Cheese, Sherbert, etc. I'm starving and craving real food like nothing else, but oh well..what can you do? Haha. Anyways, my mom is all about the natural health stuff and I'm home for Christmas break, so I get my mom to take care of me, kind of nice :) Anyways, she put Arnica all on the outside of my lip and on my chin and upper lip and I have absolutely no swelling in those areas. My lip is a little swollen, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be at all. Also, there is a product called Miracle Mist that my dad sells that I have been spraying on my stitches and on the outside of my lips, mouth, and chin as well. I've taken pain medication a few times, but really I haven't experienced much pain at all. I would really recommend using the Arnica and the Miracle Mist! It seems to have helped me greatly! I'm sure it would be beneficial even if you already have had the mucocele removed, but it would probably be best to get them before you have your surgery so you can start using them right after the surgery. The Arnica I have is by Pure Herbs and you can order it from this site: http://www.webnat.com/proddetail.asp?prod=pharnic. And the Miracle Mist can be ordered from Healthy Life and Times: http://www.healthylifeandtimes.com/MiracleMistPlusSpray.html. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I strictly recommend not to hold off until you earn enough amount of money to order goods! You can get the mortgage loans or commercial loan and feel free
