Thank you for this forum--it was helpful during my eight week "battle." Ha ha.
At my (regular) yearly exam, I mentioned the bump to my doctor. She told me to go to an ENT. I thought I should go to a dermatologist--but no, the ENT is the right place. (I confirmed this with my dermatologist this week--who scraped four moles off my body...another story.)
The nurse at the ENT's said, "Oh, that's a cute one!" I laughed.
The doctor saw it and recognized it. He said to schedule a 40 minute appointment to extract it. I said, fine! Then he left, came back in and said that he just had two cancellations--did I want it gone today? Sure, I said! Should I get it lasered? I asked. "No."
So...they sat me back, and:
1.) put a solution that smelled like "rotten banana" in my mouth to numb it;
2.) gave me a few shots in the mouth to numb it further (described as "bee stings"--it was fine);
3.) they cut it open and pulled the nasty thing out;
4.) they put one (dissolvable stitch) in;
5.) showed it to me (a big white piece of goo) and apologized that they couldn't let me have it for the kids' upcoming science fair!
Well, seriously, the hardest part was about two hours afterwards when it KILLED with pain. I took ibuprofen, and seriously--it killed. (Keep in mind that I gave birth to triplets.)
Five days later, I've forgotten about it entirely. Note that it will hurt afterwards, and that eating hurts. (I love eating.)
I hope this helps someone!
Jill :)

Hi Big Johnny,
Mine was in my bottom inside lip. I'm sure that there are more painful placements, and that mine was benign compared to others out there. I just wouldn't freak out so much about it.
Again, it hurt afterwards. So my biggest advice? Eat beforehand!
Good luck everyone,
Jill :)

Don't let it freak you out, but you might (I say MIGHT) end up with a little permanent numbness in your lip. Pretty hard to miss the nerves when they take those buggers out. I had one taken off my lower lip several years ago, and still have aslight bit of numbness...not intolerable and much better than having the mucocele.
