Incision infected?

I had surgery to remove a large mucocele on the inside of my lower left lip on Thursday, 2/28. I iced it for a bit on Thursday night, then again on Friday during the day. I've tried to be careful about eating, but time constraints make chopping my food into little pieces difficult at times. I also have been cleaning the incision site with salt water twice daily and taking a prescription antibiotic. It is pretty swollen now, and looks positively awful. I don't think any of the stitches have dissolved yet, but part of the incision is open--it looks like it was never stitched at all. In addition, the skin between the stitches is puffy due to the swelling, rather bloody-looking, and has a weird, whitish film on it. Not too much pain though--I guess that's good. I don't have a follow-up appointment until next Friday, but I'm wondering if I should make one sooner.
I'd go back in. I don't think it's too big a problem, but will take so much more longer to heal up if the stitches aren't right.
kmaher- I had mine removed on 2/23 and for the next 4 days the site of the incision was much as you described. It was puffy, painful, with no visible signs of healing. Like you, I was worried about an infection because the food I was eating required chewing and it seemed to irritate the wound. In fact the upper part of the incision looked like it was opening up with weird gooey things peeking out. However, as the swelling went down slowly over the next 4 days the incision began to close up and then it really started to heal fast. I just went to the oral surgeons this morning for a post op and they said everything was healing just fine. I also have the whiteness on the wound, which is perfectly fine as it is how wounds to the inner lip look when they are healing.
I'd be interested in hearing how things are for you today or tomorrow.
