I had a question. Can a mucocele go away by itself? I really hate needles and stuff and don't want to have it removed with surgery or laser treatment.

hey. i had a mucocele about a month or so ago and was kind of freaking out about it and didnt want to pay to have it surgically removed. i went to my doctor and he said it was benign and most likely a mucocele. he told me that they can sometimes go away on their own and to call him in a month if it was still there. i didnt really believe him because everywhere i had read online had said that they DON'T go away by themselves.... well....sure enough, it went away on its own in a few weeks. i didnt mess with it and tried not to bite it, and it wound up shrinking and eventually going away. i would say be patient with it and give it a few weeks to go away on its own....hope this helps....

Well I've had two under my tongue before. The first went away in 3 months and the second went away in 3 weeks, so I don't know...

I had a mucocele for about six weeks--confirmed by my dentist--and I had an appointment scheduled with an oral surgeon. A few days before my appt, it mostly disappeared. There are just two very tiny lumps left where it was, not bothersome at all. It's been gone now for six weeks. We'll see if it comes back...

I'd say that if it's going to go away it does so in the first few weeks. If you've still got it after a couple of months then it isn't going anywhere. As long as you've had it diagnosed properly and it is a mucocele then it's your choice whether to get it removed or just leave it be.

Yes, mucoceles can go away without surgery. But this is not to say that many go away "on their own." As I mentioned in another post, what worked for me to get rid of my second mucocele (after surgery on the first) was to pop the thing as soon as possible after a person notices it and then start applying over the counter medicine immediately, including products for dealing with canker sores. The one that worked for me is the one that uses a soft brush to apply the stuff. There is another product I also used this last time but I forget the name now. Also, swishing Listerine around occasionally after popping the thing seemed to help.
