Recurring mucoceles after surgery?

I had a mucocele surgically removed about six weeks ago. I had five stitches, rather significant swelling of two weeks duration, and still some numbness in my lower lip. Within the last 24 hours, another mucocele has appeared adjacent to the other one that was removed. Is this a common occurrence? Also, is there anything I can do to minimize the swelling, especially the duration? I am supposed to leave for vacation only 9 days after my oral surgeon can see me and I really hate looking like Botox gone bad on a nice cruise ship! Thought about trying to put off having this one removed but the more I eat the bigger it gets and the bigger it gets the easier it is for my teeth to aggravate it....... just a vicious cycle. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

It is quite common for another to appear. I had one removed and now have another but it's much smaller so I have just left it. If I were you I'd burst the mucocele and put of having it removoed till after the holiday. I certainly wouldn't want to go away just a few days after surgery.

Hi, the other problem that can occur is if the doctor misses some of the stuff that needs to be removed during the surgery. In my case, the doctor pulled out a white glob and then looked around some more and found another white glob that was hiding. From what I have read, a doctor needs to inspect the site very carefully because the bad stuff can be hidden or somewhat hidden. If that happens, and some of the bad stuff is left there, a mucocele will reappear. In my case, I still have some scar tissue more than a year after my suergery and I can notice it slightly but it is not a big deal, much easier to deal with than a mucocele.
