Trying to pop my mucocele?!!

I did the same thing - popped it until it wouldn't go down anymore. Before I had mine removed, I was rinsing with Listerine about 5-6 times a day, and the day I got it removed - i swear it was a little smaller. So maybe try that, but otherwise, removal might be the answer.

Do not pop it to point of making it bleed! The pop and rinse method only works if the skin covering the fluid is very thin and white and basically dead. It would get popped anyway from food or a nudge from your teeth. Healthy red flesh in your mouth will only heal over very quickly, since it is rich with blood, sealing it off again. Even if the skin is dead and white you should use a great deal of restraint in the number of times the mucocele gets poked - ideally only once ever and then immediately rinse it out with salt water or Listerine. All these people repeatedly poking needles into their mucoceles especially ones covered by healthy flesh really need to stop it. Puncturing healthy flesh creates scar tissue and doing it repeatedly will only make it accumulate and possibly get out of hand.

Go see a doctor if it's intolerable or showing complications.

Thanks for your replies. Recurrence, I have stopped mutilating my mucocele. I now only pop it with a lancet in one place, a few times a day. This method is actually a lot more effective than butchering my lip!

It has gone down some, I also use Gly-Oxide on it. I might just have to save up for surgery.

I think the saliva sac is actually almost ALL gone, but my lip seems to be swollen around it, and extra skin from when it was bigger.

Hopefully that'll go away.

LIke what recurrence said, I agree not to destroy your lip with a needle every day. Just find a spot that doesn't hurt to stick the needle through and keep at it. The hardest part is working up the courage to pierce your own lip. Haha.

Actually, I had a mucocele about 4 months ago and i squeezed it until it was flat, but the bad news is that it came back about 4 months later, but it is about half the size. I'm debating whether to pop it again, but i'm sure that I will. Just be sure to keep rinsing it with Listerine every day, at least 3 times a day after it's gone.

If you can deal with popping it once every 4 months then go for it, that's what i'm gonna do.

I would say *maybe* try ONE time to pop it using a sterilized needle. Do *not* try to just squeeze it and pop it like a pimple on your face.

I've been popping my every few says for weeks and every time it comes back and I think it has resulted in driving it deeper into my lip. :-(

If it comes back after popping it just once, try to get an appointment to get it surgically removed.

I had mucocele for ten years due to a trauma in the lip, here is my remedy for living with it. What ever you do don't pop it!!!! If its real big go get it remove if its big as a eraser the just apply Vaseline and wait keep doing it until the top layer of the skin is falling off then clean it with peroxide and then apply a&d ointment until the swelling goes down (this if for the lip only). Mines only reoccur every couple of years due to this technique and it never increase in size.
