My mucocele story began about 5 weeks ago, when I bit my lower lip while eating a hamburger. The next day, what looked like a small pimple appeared on my left front inner lip. Within a day it grew to about 3 mm in size then stabilized.
An internet search revealed this to be a mucocele...it was the correct color and consistency. I have been using mouthwash and salt water rinses for about a month now. It hasn't gotten any bigger, but nor did it grow smaller.
Until this afternoon. I was doing an inspection this afternoon, and noticed that part of the mucocele was now white..previously it has been mostly purple and pink. I decided to squeeze it a little. A piece of white "Something" broke through the skin...it was like a small white plug of hard mucus. I kept squeezing and some oily saliva came out, and then some blood.
I stopped squeezing when I got to the blood part, then rinsed the mucocele with hydrogen peroxide and listerine. It is now about 2/3 the size it was this morning.
So, was the white "plug" the thing that was blocking the gland? I have avoided using needles on this for fear of making the situation worse. What should I do now? Leave it alone more? Squeeze it? Continue on? I really don't want to go to a doctor for it. Any advice?
