Hi, I have a very hard lump that seems to have come up over night. If I had to describe it, I would say that it was a tooth coming out sideways from the jaw under the skin. Are mucoceles hard?

Well, from what i've read on this website, the most common place to find one is on your lower lip. I've also heard of people getting them in the back of their mouth near the uvula. And yes, i believe that mucoceles are usually hard, well at least the 2 that i have had were.

Where exactly is yours?

bottom left, cant see it as it is entirely under healthy skin, not sure whether to say in lip or cheek, but it almost feels that it is attatched to the jaw itself. It is making my jaw ache. Have a doctor visit friday so we'll see what he says.

This doesn't sound like a mucocele...sounds more like a torus, but the onset is too quick...interested to hear what the doc thinks it is...

He gave me antibiotics, did nothing, am now waiting for an appointment at the maxcillo facial unit. Johnny, I looked up torus, it does seem to fit as I had major jaw surgery 10 years ago. Maybe the lump was there and I never noticed it before and it grew a bit now. Will keep you posted.

Have just been looking into it some more and will bet money on it being a buccal exostosis, very similar to your idea johnny but in the exact position mine is. Will keep posting.
