So I had a 'blister' in my lower lip for a month or so. Saw the doc, was referred to an Ear, nose and throat specialist. He confirmed my reoccuring blister was a mucocele. Scheduled removal for Oct. 3, Dr. applied local anesthetic, gave me a shot, cut the mucocele off, cauterized 4-6 times, put two 'mattress stitches' in and said it all went well. Take tylenol as needed.
Monday the 6th I called to report quite a bit of swelling and numbness and they said that's normal for 7-10 days.
Well, today is 10 days, the swelling is mostly gone, but my lip is still numb and there is still a hole in part of the incision. It still hurts to eat sometimes and to brush my teeth. Is this normal at all, did the Dr. screw up? I've called the Dr's office again today to ask because my follow up appt. isn't for another week. I haven't heard from them yet?
I can post pictures later today probably.
Thanks
Malpractice?
There is a chance of permanent lip numbness....I'm sure it was in the release you signed. I had one taken off my lower lip a few years ago...they went pretty deep and my lower lip is still a little numb, but not grossly so.
In short...I don't think doc screwed up...it'll take some time.
Yea, I finally went back to the doc. He said, 'I think you've got it licked.' I asked how long the numbness would last. He said it could be weeks or months. So now my lips numb with a hard lump instead of a blister.
Here are the pre and post post pics to the above pics. The first one is with the mucocele pretty full back in July. The second one is 10 days after the procedure. Still had a hole in my lip and still numb of course. You may even be able to see one of the stitches still in the hole. Shaving has also been awkward for a week or so. I recommend a goatee or something.
