Will my lip go back to normal if I have surgery?
I'm really scared. I busted my lip pretty badly from a fall 2 1/2 weeks ago. Now i have this mucocele i'm guessing. It changes size throughout the day, and my lip looks really raised from the bump. I considered popping it with a needle, but then i read it just reoccurs and could send it deeper into the lip. Mine already looks like it's pretty deep in the lip and the head isn't as white and defined as others i've seen on the site, but it's pretty big. I'm guessing pea sized. I guess my question is, if i have the surgery, will my lip ever look the same again? Will my lips come together like before without a curve in the middle? Will they ever feel as soft as before or will they be permanently hardened by the scar tissue? I know the healing takes time, but is there ever 100 percent recovery? From what I've read, the salt or listerine thing only works for spontaneous non trauma mucoceles so surgery is my only hope. Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Your lip should recover just fine. No reason it shouldn't be completely normal after it's healed.
I've had surgery twice in the same spot about 4 years ago. I still have some numbness in the area though not as bad as the first year after removal. I also had some scar tissue which healed up nicely. I think it took about 6 months for the scar to go away. I also still have an asymmetrical lip. It's not very noticeable though and it did get better with time. Keep in mind there is a possibility for numbness, scarring and asymmetrical lip. Unfortunately i have another mucocele which surfaced in the same area about 2 months ago. I think I'll see a plastic surgeon because i worry about the appearance of lip.
