Mine WENT AWAY BY ITSELF
I have read several posts wherein people claim there is no hope of a mucocele going away without surgery. Well, my mucocele is either on the longest "vacation" ever, or it's simply gone. I had a classic, definite mucocele for about 9 months, after a severe bite and re-bite. NEVER during this 9 months was there a day when it wasn't somewhere in the cycle; it was either full blown and annoying as heck, or on it's way down from bursting, but still annoying or fairly flat and drained, and at least somewhat tolerable for a day or two until it filled up and the whole thing started all over again. Well, about 5 months ago, it just completely flattened and never filled back up and it's been that long now with ZERO activity. It's just GONE. I keep thinking maybe I shouldn't get too happy about it, because what if it comes back. That's why I waited so long to post this. I didn't want to give bad information or false hope. Needless to say, if it does come back, I will report back. But for now, it seems to have simply vanished on its own. One thing I will mention for what it's worth: I DID rinse it a handful of times with Listerine in the few weeks before it stopped. I'm NOT saying that did anything, and honestly I wasn't all that consistent or diligent about it. It was just whenever I remembered to. Anyway, if you're not ready for surgery, just know that (rare though it may be), there is hope! Good luck to all (and to me, in case it comes back and I feel pretty goofy about writing all this) :-)
Don't feel goofy if it does come back. Both my oral surgeon and an ENT specialist told me these things have minds of their own...they very well may "burn out" and never come back. It comes down to just how long you want to deal with it. Plus...the surgery to remove one may damage other glands and cause new ones....
When I first noticed mine, I talked to my dentist. His advice was to wait for it to go away, and it did. Several months later, it came back in force. Don't be devistated if it comes back--it's really not a big deal to have it removed.
Well, it's been more than a year since mine disappeared and I just thought I'd check in to let everyone know it's STILL GONE. Never came back. If anything changes, I'll report back. Good luck to all.
thanks for putting this on! it makes me feel a lot better!
ive had mine for several months and sometimes it would burst and it was almost like i could squeeze out salty liquid but then it would always fill up again!
this gives me hope ! thanks again:)
