Evening Primrose Oil works!!

I had been suffering from a very large mucocele on the inside of my lower lip near the lip line (so it was visible, ick) for about 4-6 weeks.  I tried everything anyone else had suggested, warm compress, canker sore medicine, salt/listerine washes, you name it.  Nothing really seemed to work until i stumbled upon a study that had "inconclusive" results regarding mucocele treatment with Evening Primrose Oil.  I did not want surgery so i figured i might as well try the oil since there had to be a reason they did a study in the first place....right?!

I bought Evening Primrose Oil capsules at the drug store, cut the tip off of the capsule, dribbled a little on my finger and massaged it VERY lightly over and around the mucocele just to get a light coating on it.  I then ripped a square piece of single-ply kleenex, soaked it in the oil and placed it gently over the mucocele as a little oil-soaked compress.  I let it sit on there for about 10 minutes or so as i was getting ready for bed and then took it off before i went to sleep.

I did that for a few nights in a row and after only a few days i noticed a HUGE difference at first in the consistency or texture of it.  It had started out as a very hard lump of tissue under the skin, but after the EPO treatments, it became much more pliable and soft.  Then after a week or so it began to decrease in size.  It has now been about 1 month since i started using the oil, i now do it every other night or so and it is almost completely gone.  The bump can no longer be seen from the outside and there is just a little raised spot where the duct is still healing.  I am confident that it will continue to improve!

I hope this helps some people!  Good luck!!

How brilliant that that has worked for you!  If I were to get another one I would certainly try that method.

fantastic 'anon', i'm so glad that worked for you too!  mine hasn't come back yet and its been about a month since it went away.  who knows, i may re-irritate it sometime... but if i do, i know how to treat it right away!

I cannot say that it doesn't work.

I used it for 4 days in a row, and each day the lump got smaller. At the forth day I had an appointment to have it removed anyway. Either the oil was really making it shrink, or it was just part of it's natural cycle--I don't know.

Congrats on your success I'm happy to hear your mucocele has disappeared. I've had two removed by a surgeon but another one is forming on the surgery scar. I dont want to have another surgery because my lip looks mutilated enough as it is. I bought the evening primerose oil today and did exactly what you did. I hope to see the same results as you did, wish me luck, and I will keep my results posted.

When I had a mucocele, I used the evening primrose oil.  I used gauze because it seemed as if it held a lot of the primrose oil.  I placed the gauze soaked in primrose oil over my mucocele and slept with it overnight.  Usually, i would wake up in the middle of the night and go spit it in the trash can.  It seemed to work faster to me.  I used this method for about two weeks.  After the trip to the oral surgeon, I haven't had any signs of a mucocele.  This was about 6 months ago.

I also read somewhere that sucking on a small piece of lemon was supposed to help.  The acid from the lemon was supposed to help draw up the mucocele.  I tried it but it didn't work for me.  Good luck in trying to defeat mucoceles!

Hello Guest Poster:

Sometimes, it takes a lil bit of time to allow the home remedies to work.  Instead of a few days, give it a few weeks.  You might notice a change in your mucocele then. Keep trying and let us know what happens!

Hi, I just wanted to tell everybody thats dealing with a mucocele problem, that Evening Primrose Oil does work!!! I was so stressed out by my mucocele, i was in such a bad mood, almost depressed. i've had mine since november 2009, and its been coming and going until about 2 weeks ago that it became really bothersome! big and swollen i couldnt talk or eat comfortably, thanks GOd i found this forum and I tried the alum with listerine but, it made it worse, maybe i was too rough with the indications, but then after that i tried the EPO last night i rubbed the oil gently on my inside lip(where mucocele is located) and this morning it has swolled down noticeable!!! its like a miracle, i've doing it a few times during the day and i'll keep doing it until is completly gone, really im just want to make sure it doesn't come back but its already technically GONE!! everybody should give it a try you wont regret it and you will save headaches and money, thanks to all the people that recommended it. Good Luck to all of you!!

-E- I Just bought a bottle of primrose oil and a tube of Biotene toothpaste. I'll keep you posted on the progress. I'll keep you guys posted if I notice any progress. Also, how much do these things suck? They are robbing me of my romantic life. Good luck all.

-E- also, is there any benefit to applying the primrose oil multiple times a day?

-e- Finished my first night with a EOP soaked cotton swab in my mouth. I was happy to find that my mucocle has receded a tinny bit. I'm hoping this will continue nightly . I'll post again tomorrow as to whether there has been further improvement. Also Biotene toothpaste is great. It might be a placebo effect but it just feels better on my mucocel while I brush.

Hi everybody, I hate to be back with bad news, I used de EPO, and worked wonders like i said in my first posting, but now after about 10 days, i still have a little bump, with a white dot and it seems like it wants to come back, i dont know what i did wrong, ive notice my front teeth kind of rub the mucocele in the gap thas in between them, and that might be why it wont heal completely, Im still using the EPO i guess it only controls the problem but now im starting to panic, i don't want to deal with this forever, i hope somebody could help us with some more tips. thank you! -e- Day two: with primrose/biotene toothpaste. I don't notice a difference in the size of the mucocele but it's softer and slightly less intrusive. Sorry to hear yours is coming back, i can imagine that being disappointing. Honestly i would due the eop every night if it meant i didn't have this thing.

hey everyone :D

i'm the original poster of this forum...i'm glad to see it has helped so many people!  Be patient with the treatment, it can take a week or so for the EPO to do its thing.  I noticed a change in texture first, it got soft and pliable, and then it wasn't for a week or so that i noticed a change in size.  It then was a small raised dot for awhile where the duct was healing...and eventually it dissapeared!

It has been just over a year since i had the mucocele and it has not returned.  I couldn't even tell you where it used to be...!

Anyway, keep up the good work, and spread the word about this non-invasive treatment!
