I have mucocele for about 3 weeks now. :( I'll give this method a try and update you guys if it works for me.

I've had one for 3-4 weeks now and using EPO treatments for about a week. Tried the alum but didn't seem to work. Have an appointment to get it removed but is so freaked out by the surgery. It seems to be getting smaller and softer. I pray this thing goes away it's so freaking me out.

I must say, thank you for this lead. I would recommend applying the EPO to a portioned piece of sterilized cotton ball. The EPO must have some kind of anti-inflammatory effect on the injured gland (my hypothesis). Whatever the process is, it sure is a blessing and I am very thankful for the information provided by the site.

Again I recommend applying EPO it on the mucocele while sleeping. If one has time, apply during the day. Cheap, painless, limited infection risk.

hey guys i'm trying this today, hope it works! i've had my mucocele for about a week now, and i'm quite cetrain it IS a mucocele after visiting two different doctors (i was paranoid, and the second doctor tried to drain my mucocele but not much liquid came out. i assume it's because i've only had it for a week and a fully developed cyst hasn't been able to form yet?) anyway. i hope this treatment works! after reading all of these posts i'm assuming it works best if it is treated on mucoceles that have been recently formed/discovered. i'll post again about the results in a few days. farrafyza, how is ur mucocele going? -mrk_l

Guys sorry to be the be the bad news bear lol... but EPO does have anti inflammatory properties but it wont shrink it completely unless your mucocele is pretty small. I had surgery for mine and its the best $800 I spent! Find a good plastic surgeon/ENT for minimal damage to your lip. Good luck!

EPO did absolutely nothing to me. I also had surgery for mine and I am also feeling relieved. It was not fun having this mucocele. But be careful find a good surgeon. I preferred paying out of my pocket and choosing an experienced surgeon to getting a random one with the NHS and getting it done for free but running the risk of having it badly done. I am far from rich but I care about my lips too much... Good luck!

hey guys just letting you know that about an hour and half ago i got mine removed!!!!! WHOO HOO! i couldn't take it anymore, so right after work i drove to my GP (yes, just my typical GP) and he did the procedure for me! IT WAS FREE! I live in Melbourne, Australia and i suppose GP's here are able to do minor surgical operations if they choose to! He's experienced so i didn't worry of any complications. he injected me with some anesthetic (with 1% adrenaline) and cut away! i had a total of 5 stitches. Anyway, I WAS on the EPO treatment for a while and I know how frustrating it is to hear about people who have removed theirs and saying "this doesnt work" and "that doesn't do anything" but the EPO did reduce the size of my mucoceles dramatically before i caved in to surgery! so don't give up! but my point is - if you can get surgery, well easy access to it and relatively cheap - by all means do it! i've had this mucocele for about 3 weeks and in just a matter of minutes it's gone! i pray to god that it doesnt return tho! anyway, good luck guys and i hope the best! -mrk_l *ps i posted about 3 days ago about the EPO treatment

I had a mucocele for about three weeks until I found this site. It got so irritating, some days feeling larger than other days. I picked up some evening primrose oil capsules and literally used once topically (also orally ingested 2 pills the same night and two in the am) and the little bugger popped the NEXT day. It took about a day to heal completely. It's been a week and nothing has come back.

-L- it seems that primrose oil can work on reducing the size of the mucocele... But will it work more if its one that is pretty small..or might it also work on one that is big?? I've had one for a few wks and now it just seems to b a harder lump.. How hoes the EPO work? Will it make it softer and eventually go away..or will it make it raise bigger so it pops? Can someone please explain to me a little more about it.. Want to give it a try because mine is big :( but don't want to make it bigger... Thank u!!!

I have the mucocele in my soft palate which makes it harder for the oil to stay put because I swallow it. Sheeshhhh....Ive had it for a little more than a year and it's driving me insane! If yo guys have any input please let me know. HELP!:-o

I also have soft palate mucoceles and haven't been able to get enough EPO on the mucocele area without gagging...so the home treatments haven't worked for me. I've had 2 surgeries, both with an ENT and now have a 3rd mucocele. Mucoceles 2 and 3 appeared at the edge of the scar from surgeries 1 and 2. Because of the time between mucocele 1 and 2 (over 2 years) it probably was from scarring from the first surgery and not that they didn't get the underlying salivary glands. What helps me? Eat on the other side of your mouth and eat small bites of softer foods. I'd stick to fish and chicken if you are not vegetarian. Try to keep food away from the mucocele if you can to keep it from irritating the surface and getting it infected. Drink plenty of liquids both with your meals and in between to help wash the food down. If your mucocele really swells up with salty, spicy, sour, or acidic foods try blander foods. Rinse your mouth gently with salt water (1/4 teaspoon per 8 ounce glass of warm water) after meals. But if you are at the point that the soft palate mucocele is large enough to interfere with swallowing, speaking, causing gagging, etc. It is time to see a doctor and talk about surgery. Depending on where the mucocele is on your soft palate, how large it is and how strong your gag reflex is, you may need to have an ENT do the surgery instead of an oral surgeon. Good luck. Not sure what I am going to do about mucocele 3. Softpalatemisery10

OMG, I am sorry to hear that about your surgeries! This mucocele is not too big but it is quite annoying. I am miserable just as you are. I pop the mucocele when it really bothers me but it comes back right away. Mustard especially flares it up, I am sick of this mucocele. I can relate to you. I have tried the EPO thing but I don't think it is staying long enough to provide treatment. If I find a remedy I'll let you know! Ha! :-))) Thanks for your reply Softpalatemisery10. Good Luck

One more to attest to evening primrose oil! I've had a huge mucocele for close to four months now, and after 2 applications of the oil, it's nearly half its previous size. Much cheaper than surgery!

I went to the family doctor for my bump in my inside lower lip. She referred me to an ent. I have to wait until next week now to go see her. I am in pain an annoyed that a family doctor had absolutely no clue how to help me. I am going to go buy some evening primrose oil right now. I will keep you posted on this annoying little problem and if the evr helps. :)

Evening Primrose oil did not work for me.  What worked was leaving it 100% alone.  Making sure to never bite it, graze it or touch it.  I literally held out my lip or chewed with my mouth open for 2 days and it started to rapidly decrease in size.  It's now gone.  I was told I would *have* to have it surgically removed.  Good luck!

Lucky you, I left mine alone for 6 months and it only got bigger. Had to have surgery. I regret the surgery. The after effects (swollen, numb lip) are more noticeable than the mucocele.
