My mucocele situation
Someone bit my lip about a month ago. I woke up the next day after it was bit and noticed that the inside of my lower lip was bruised, bloody, and there was some skin missing and bite marks. Right away after noticing it, it started to swell up. I thought that it was just a swollen bruise and it would go away. A month later this bump is still on my lip. It started out small, and it got bigger and bigger. Last week it got the biggest it had ever been. Now it has been getting significantly smaller on its own. I have never poked it or drained it or anything like that. I just try to leave it alone as much as I can. So, now I am thinking that it might keep shrinking until it goes away. Is there any harm on waiting it out? I know if I get surgery there is a chance that it will grow back which would be a waste of money, or even worse surgery could cause more mucoceles to appear. A doctor on one website said that they do not go away on their own. Many other websites said that they usually go away on their own or they go away within 1 day to 5 years.
If I do decide to get it removed. I was wondering what the average cost for the removal is? I do not have any kind of health insurance. So, I am pretty worried that I wont be able to afford this.
I also think that it may be infected, it is mostly whiteish but there is a small yellowish spot on it that looks different from the rest of it.
There's probably no harm in waiting it out. Since it's yellowish maybe you should put some abreva on it because could that be a fever blister? If it's still bothering you in a few weeks i'd go see a doctor and have them check it out.
I'm not sure what the price would be for surgery if you did find out it was a mucocele because it all depends where you live, what doctor you choose, and your insurance. My insurance would only pay a little bit because I went to an oral surgeon outside their preferred doctors list so for my surgery I had to pay out of pocket around $400 and the insurance paid the rest but I also got put to sleep and that costed extra.
