Worried about a Mucocele on my 3yr Old Any Advice???????
So, about a month ago my son developed a small blister looking lump on his lip.. I immediatley took him to see his pediatrician who recently took on a physicans assistant who saw my son and told us it was some type of cold sore or blister and prescribed a medicine used for herpes which I found out at the pharmacy. I asked the pharmacist if this was normal to prescribe this for his age and for what she thought he had and he said yes so for the next ten days I gave him the medicine. Of course no change in the bump. I took him back to the Dr and still no diagnosis. So, I decided to take him to the ER as the bump was getting bigger and I was getting more scared... They Immediatley knew it was a Mucocele and referred us to an Oral Surgeon... I've contacted a few and have been trying to do some research but haven't found one who will remove it on a three year old.. Thankfully I found this site... The thing is I'm not quite sure of what to do he's so young and It's bothering him just today he bit it as he was eating and was in alot of pain... I live in central Florida if any one can reccommend someone or maybe some other methods that would be GREAT... I'm not even sure surgery is the best option for him ...
Any Suggestions or Advice Appreciated
It could be removed no problem but would have to be under general anaesthetic which I suppose they are not keen on doing. I don't know how things work out there but here in the UK I'd seek assistance from my GP.
Ann,
Thank You for responding to my post...Have you had the surgery?? I went to the GP he wrote us a referral for an Oral Surgeon but I haven't had any luck finding one who will work on a 3yr old...I also read on hear most of the GP's drain them...Ours did not should he have?? If not do you know who we could see that could drain it for some temporary relief until we find an OS as it's getting so big.. I read on here about people doing it themselves but I can't bring myself to do that I don't want to hurt him I'd much rather see a professional..
