Multiple mucoceles, normal?
So, christmas 2008 I started getting stressed over exams, and a couple of ulcers came up on the inside of my lip, which I bit and played with. They disappeared, but two clear fluid filled hard lumps replaced them, which were painless. These lasted a few days then disappeared, and I didnt see any more for a while. Over the last few months I have been feeling around my mouth a lot, in my sleep even, with my tongue, searching for more lumps. Inevitably they appeared, again small hard and fluid filled, and disappeared overnight. More recently one has been coming back in the same place. It is large, and initially clear and fluid filled, which sometimes pops when I brush my teeth, or sometimes gets filled with blood, then disappears. It doesnt hurt at all. I keep thinking Ive got rid of it, but it just keeps appearing. I was wondering whether it is common to get muroceles in more than one place, and whether I should visit the doctor to ask to have my one recurring one removed?
Thanks.
By the way, this website is a life saver, I was so worried about them, and everyone kept telling me they were probably ulcers, but I was considering all sorts of possiblities.. I had never even heard of muroceles!
I think that you can have them in more than once place. I've had an ulcer in my mouth before and they are very painful. The mucocele has never been painful at all. That would seem to me to be the best way to tell if it's an ulcer or a mucocele. Probably if the recurring one is really bothering you the best thing to do is go talk to a doctor/oral surgeon and see what they think is the best for you to do. Good luck.
Thanks for your advice, Im pretty sure they arent ulcers and they are mucoceles. I will book a doctors appointment to make sure. However, another one seems to be appearing close to the original.. its getting ridiculous, they just appear and grow and then pop, all around the inside of my lip. I cant go 2 weeks without one coming up.. very frustrating.
It may be something else entirely like ordinary blisters you're getting for some reason. An allergy or any number of things could do that. If they are actually blood blisters then that is something else again. I get blood blisters in my mouth and it's due to a low platelet count. Get it checked out.
