Lump inside bottom right side lip (tobacco user)
Hey guys - I'm 22 years old and have been dipping since I was about 16. Over a week ago I discovered this small, painless, (same color as the rest of my lip skin) lump inside my bottom lip. It's kind of more on the right side (my right) close to the bottom. I also want to mention that I always hold my tobacco on the LEFT side of my bottom lip. (not where the lump is). You can't see the lump, you can only feel it.
It has really really worried me. I cringe at the word cancer and I consider myself to be kind of a hypochondriac. Everytime I get sick or something, I think the worst!
I know that mouth cancer has to be rare at my age and.. men over about 40 years old are at more risk. My family doesn't have a history of cancer. My grandfather has dipped for probably nearly 40 years, my father dips and smoked his whole life before he began dipping, my mom, siblings and nearly everyone in my family smokes!
I don't have the money to see a dentist or a doctor right now. I just want to know that I DO NOT have cancer. I'm praying that it's only a mucocele. The lump feels less hard now when I rub against it with my tongue. I think it's getting smaller, but I'm not sure. I really want to get away from dipping but it's so hard. Everytime I get a mouth sore, it scares the crap out of me!
What do y'all think?
Thanks
Brandon
Brandon, I know how you feel, man! I didn't use tobacco products, but I'm still a bit of a hypochondriac, so when I thought I had Oral Cancer, I was scared out of my mind.
What you describe does sound like a mucocele to me; but you should do your best to see a professional.
Also, might be a good time to quit chewing. Imagine this feeling 20 years from now - only you aren't so lucky this time!
Strongly agree on all counts. I dipped for 20+ years. Now I'm addicted to the nicotine gum...lesser of two evils...
Thanks guys. Do you think it could have something to do with the allergy season? I'm pretty terrible when the pollen comes out.
Also... When I googled pictures of mucocele's - It lookes like they're all located almost ON the bottom lip. Right below it. My bump is at the bottom of the inside lip, closer to the chin, and resting against my bottom gums! (although i can't feel it resting on my gums)
Brandon...I get little mucoceles all over my mouth...inside my cheek near the parotid duct...area behind my back teeth. My big ones that had to be taken off were inside my lower lip and off my soft palate by my right tonsil. You can even get mucoceles on the roof of your mouth...yes there are salivary glands there (as I found out)
I know tou said money's tight, but I'd recommend you go let a dentist, or better yet an oral surgeon give it a look...if nothing else for the peace of mind.
Thanks bigjohnny. I THINK it's getting less noticeable, but if it's not, I'll try to see a dentist in a week or two if it's still there. It's been about 2 weeks so far. I'm not so worried like I was. I am, but I think if I genuinely stay positive and not worry so much about it, the better things are! Negativity, stress and worry can harm our health and bring bad things upon us!
