Hello all!

I am a new member here and I for one am glad that I found this page.  My worry started about mid June,  I found a small bump at the roof of my mouth, not big, not sore, kinda clear, blends in with the skin at the top of my mouth.  Its actual location is on the left side of my soft palete.  It came and went for about three weeks.  I rinsed with listerine.  Burnt the crap outta my mouth.  Tried oral gel, it did nothing. Salt water, lol, yeah right.  I started to get worried so I decided to take a trip to the dentist.  She told me that there was nothing abnormal because the first thing i thought was oral cancer.  I am not a smoker, don't use tobacco, and not a heavy drinker.  She did tell me that there are small ducts at the top of your mouth that can get clogged and as a result it acts as a ballon, it swells once full, and deflates once the liquid is gone.  She told me not to worry myself.  She gave me a referral to an oral specialist which I have an appt on Aug 11.  She could not explain to me why it does that.

I started to do some research of my own, found some very helpful info that help me to easy my worry, and I found this page.  I believe what i have is a superfical mucocele.  I still have to get it confirmed by the oral specialist.  I stop using tartar control toothpaste and I keep my mouth rinsed out with peroxide.

There was a lady who posted a commet on this page about using evening primrose oil on her mucocele.  I dont know her name but i wanna say thanks!  I use it every night and even though my bump was never that big, I can hardly tell its there.  It still comes and goes, but not as often as it did!  Thanks!!  I also want to thank a memeber named Big Johnny.  He gave a very insightful post that helped me to quit worrying all the dang on time!  Thanks for that post.

I just want to say I am glad i found this page and I wish everyone luck and success with solving their mucocele problems and other mouth problems.  I will share any new info that I find out and if you all have any insight let me know.  I finally have some people to relate to because my family and husband thought that i was crazy.  Anyway take care all and i will post back after i visit the specialist.

Hi rgl !!!

First of all, glad my post helped your mental state a bit.  Been there...done that...got the T-shirt grin

I had a mucocele just like yours, on my soft palate...result of some oral surgery which damaged the salivary gland ducts...the cause of most mucoceles.  You can even get mucoceles on the roof of your mouth...yes there are some ducts there.

Good luck with the oral surgeon....mine's on my Christmas card list !!

If I had to guess, i would think i got mine from eating a lot of tortilla chips.  i love homemade salsa and sometimes, the chips polk the roof of my mouth.  In my reserach, i have read that mucocele are very common and sometimes, no damage has to occur.  Also, I got a lit bit of info.  It didn't work for me very well, but, it may work for someone else.  Someone on the webmd forum told me to try sucking on a small piece of lemon.  It worked for a day, at least I thought Lol! Maybe it might work for someone else.  If someone tries it, lemme know what happens!

Hello All!

RGL Here.  Just wanted to tell you all my appointment with the oral specialist is today.  Had my rountine cleaning with my dentist yesterday.  She said everthing was good and healthly looking.  My hygenist is very nice.  Both the dentist and the hygene nurse was very impessed with my research about superficial mucoceles.  FYI, the hygene nurse said that her husband had a mucocele and everytime he drank pop, it would swell up, then go away everytime he finished drinking it.  Isn't that something?!

I do feel a lot better about things.  I thought i would also let yall know that my dentist said that oral cancer mostly appears on and under the tounge.  I just thought i would post that info.  It might help someone to stop worrying so much.  But I do say, always check with your dentist and oral specialist.  K guys, I'll post the results when my visit is over.  Good Day to all.

Hello All RGL here:

My trip to the oral specialist was just fine.  It has been confirmed that my small bump is a mucocele.  The specialist could see where it had been.  Of course when I went in, it was not full blown or puffy.  However, when I went for my regular routine dental cleaning on Aug 10, she was able to see it.  The specialist told me to come back when it was full blown and he would remove it.  He said because it was not at its full state, it was too small to see to remove it properly.  The longest my mucocele has ever stayed away has been two weeks.  I will keep yall updated on what happens.

Take care All

Hi All,
My mucocele started as a white blister like patch just on the inside of my bottom lip. It would tear off though as i ate or drank etc. It would eventually heal, then come back again 2 weeks later. It scared the hell out of me too! I use to dip skoal as a youger guy but have been off it for at least 3 + years. Just had two removed and am hoping sample comes back ok. My Dr. told me not to worry, but you know how that is.

Hi all, RGL Here:

I will say yall, i have had no signs of my mucocele.  It has been two weeks since my visit to the oral specialist and since that day, it has stayed away.  However, the longest that it has stayed away was two wks.  I don't even feel the scar up there anymore like i used to.  The last time it stayed away for two wks, i still felt scarring. Well, we'll see how long it stays away. At least if it comes back, i know not to be petrified.  Will check back to let yall know what happens.
