Hello everyone, This site has been a wonderful resource. I had my mucocele for 2 years on and off. It would get bigger and shrink, etc etc. I have used the biotene toothpaste and Listerine (that was mentioned on this site before)and it really helped! I applied the toothpaste directly on the area and slowly but surely my mucocele got significantly smaller and smaller. The more times you apply it, the better. I used to leave it on before I go to sleep. I just wanted to let everyone know about this. I really appreciate everything that people have contributed here! Thanks!

How about going to your dentist!! They are the type of doctor who is MOST familiar with mouths.

lol ok so listen up, i had it for a month and when my dentist appointment was coming around, i started to swish that area of my lip with warm water and a nice amount of baking soda. i used one of those tiny cups that come with like cough syrup.I used prob a pea size of baking soda making the water really acidic or what ever and then i swished twice with the same water after i brushed my teeth. and it went away in a week.

I had a mucocele in my lip for about 6 months. I've tried popping it and cutting it out, but each time it would return even bigger than before to the point where it was the size of a pea. I kinda just tried to forget about it and I recently starting using mouthwash. To my surprise, a few weeks later I noticed that the mucocele has significantly decreased in size to the point where it's about 1/4 the size it once was and now it's so small I can barely feel it. I am 100% sure this is due to using mouthwash, as strange as it sounds. I think it has something to do with the alcohol in the mouthwash dissolving the mucocele. Whatever the explanation is, it definetly works and I recommend anyone suffering from a mucocele to at least give it as shot and use an alcohol-based mouthwash daily for a few weeks. - GSS

I believe I have a mucocele, based on the pictures. I went to the doctor yesterday cause I couldn't stand the sight of it any longer and he gave me Lidocaine to treat it has anyone heard of this? I'm a little worried he didn't get it. I mean why numb it, I need to get rid of it. I worry about the surgery and the alum but hey if it works I'd rather do that, this is my first time getting one I bit my lip really hard about five weeks ago.

After having a mucocele for almost 2 months, I finally bit the bullet and had surgery from a wonderful doctor (Samouhi) in the valley of LA. I tried the alum treatment for 1 week. Did absolutely nothing. I tried the primrose treatment for 1 week, absolutely nothing as well. I tried numbing the cyst with lidocaine and puncturing deep into the needle hoping it would release some inner pressure/fluid, nothing happened. The surgery took 10 minutes and was absolutely painless, so happy that deformed alien is no longer gestating in my lip. Alum and primrose oil are placebo's that are further encouraged by the natural deflation cycle of a mucocele.

Hi, I posted earlier about my mucocele going down in size but it was just part of the cycle. it has happened many times. It refilled again and I'm at my wits end. I'm really upset. I have used most of the home treatments but it just comes back. I can't afford a oral surgeon. I just don't know where to go from here. Please help.

How long has your mucocele been there? I'm in the same boat as you, for almost 3 weeks I've had one that drains overnight but gradually fills and gets slightly bigger throughout the day. I'm afraid if we let it stay there it will get worse and the mucocele will become permanently bigger and noticeable. I'm also uninsured, so can't afford a surgeon either. I'm just waiting to go full-time at my job to get benefits, but I don't know how long things will take. I wish you luck, I don't know what you can do. Maybe it might go away? I had a tiny one a while back and it went away after almost 2 weeks, so I thought this present one would do the same, but they all have their own minds. I say the sooner, the better.

Just an update - I did the Alum regimen about 9 months ago on a very pernicious mucocele (check my past posts to see how I did it) - and I have not had a mucocele since. I really can't believe Alum worked.

Not to self: DO NOT follow the alum treatment with a breakfast of a dish of berries (blue, black, cherries). I was ready to head out the door to work and with one last check noticed my whole mouth and teeth were purple. I was shocked. It did not just go away with a simple brushing. It was bad. Tongue was purple too. It also attached to the placque on my teeth. Not pretty. I worked on it for 1/2 hour before heading out the door. It took a couple meals to finally have it gone. Other than that I am only on my third treatment in two days. so far I think it is working but will let you know. I have had this mucocele about a month or more. Not sure how I got it. Now I am ready to relax with some Passion tea which was also recommended.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the evening primrose oil does work.  I have had a reoccurring mucocele for about three months.  It would go down for a couple days and then come back full force.  I went to the dentist and he said it had to be removed surgically.  I REALLY did not want to do that so I did a little searching on the internet for home remedies.  The first thing I tried was the ULUM treatment.  I did not work at all.  I then found this link I was delighted because I would much rather use EPO since it is natural.  I started the treatment one week ago and as of this morning my mucocele is gone.  It may come back but this is the first time in month that I have not been able to feel it in my mouth.  Try the EPO treatment.  What do you have to loose.

Since my last post around Sept 2010, the mucocele did come back a couple of weeks after I wrote that post, but it was smaller after my plain salt treatment.

I did the same routine over again; wait for the mucocele to puncture, apply plain fine table salt directly on the mucocele and rinse off with water after 15 mins or so. Salt attacks the freshly punctured skin, kills the cells, making it turn white in colour and thus  doesn't rebond with the bare skin below it. That skin will come off and you will see a crater. That's a good sign because it is healing from the inside out.

Well, it's year end and that mucocele has not recurred.

PLAIN FINE TABLE SALT IS REALLY THE MIRACLE CURE FOR MUCOCELE THAT DENTAL SURGEONS WOULD RATHER YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT IT. TRY IT !

Responding to my responder. I tried it and yeah it worked in just 1 day the mucocele just fell right off. Left a crater though used a qtip with ampicillin powder first then alum after 15 min then burnt with listerine. After that rinsed with listerine and warm water. More ampicillin on crater with gauze. The cut today is closing normally just like a cut on a knee. Still doing the same listerine alum treatment to keep disinfected.

I kept cutting mine off with a nail clipper I bought only for the under side of my tongue. I'm so glad I finally figured out what it was. I also find that once I clip it off, and use listerine, it doesn't come back for a long time. I think the listerine really helps. :) Good luck to all.

Replying to person above:  The cost of my surgery (with General Anesthesia) was around $1300.

So its been one month now that I have had my first mucocele. Every morning I pricked it with a sterilized needle  (in the same spot) and drained out the saliva. This way you can simply apply pressure to it throughout the day - so it does not fill up. Only fills up with a little saliva during sleep - which i drain in the morning. This one has healed on it own within the last few days. It simply stopped filling with saliva. I have read from other posts that you should not puncture it - but for my own sanity I could not bare the feeling of the bubble on my lip. I tried for about 3 days not to pop it - but finally caved in. Simply pop it it the same place every day to avoid scar tissue. So this goes to prove that some do heal on their own.
Today a new mucocele appeared about 1/2 inch away from the original mucocele. I noticed today when it just started, very very small, like a pimple. So I pricked it and a tiny bit of fluid came out. So now for the first time I am trying the alum. Did not put any alum on the area from the original one from a month ago. The area is still kinda sensitive - but not filling up with fluid.
I dipped a q-tip in hydrogen peroxide then in the alum and then on mucocele. Held it there for about 15 - 20 minutes. It stung and left the small white and kindy crusty spot where i pricked it. It burnt the top layer of skin. Since this one just appeared today and is really small - i want to see what the alum will do. If it works. So one healed on its own and now a new one , treated with alum and rinse with plain water after. I am open to surgery - but trying to put it off till after the new year and willing to give the home remedies a try first. Will keep you posted.

Hi Bigfoot exactly what form of Alum did you use? ie what is the chemical name? There seems to be several forms of Alum, and it seems not every form is safe. I have had this mucocele for 18 months + and am keen to get rid of it. Thanks, :)
