Lump along gumline..any ideas?
My daughter woke up this morning complaining of a sore in her mouth. She advised me that it hurt. I figured it might have been something on her cheek from her chewing but was quite surprised to see a lump along the gumline at the back of her mouth.
Does anyone know what this might be? It feels fairly hard and is tender to the touch. I don't see anything oozing around the area. And my daughter isn't presenting with any other symptoms (such as fever).
Thanks in advance!
Jennifer

Hello Jennifer:
That looks like a pretty large lump there. Umm...I think mucoceles can form on the gumline, but I am not certain. I know the most common place for them are on the lower lip, but they can form anywhere in the mouth. A mucocele is a clogged salivary duct. They can behave like a ballon. Once filled with fluid, they can burst and fill back up again. Does your daughter complain about it hurting? Make an appointment with your dentist. I had a link that showed about all kinds of mucoceles. I'll have to find it for you!
