Hello Lanivaitor,

It looks like it has a bit of a bluish tint to it..mucoceles can be bluish.  Does it hurt any?  Is it hard or soft?  It looks rather large.  Mucoceles do appear on the bottom lip.  From your pic, it looks as if your bump is in the corner of your mouth on the bottom part of your lip.  I think you should try to get it checked out just to be sure.

I know you said that you don't have any insurance but you might be able to go to your local health department.  They might be able to look at it for you for free.  I work for a health department and sometimes, they have a dental office inside.  Or, check your local college or university.  They may have a dental school and the cost is affordable.  My sis went to University of Michigan to get a dental cleaning for 50 bucks.  Hope this helps!  Let us know what happens and good luck!

I am new here but what you have looks exactly like what I have and in the same place - mine might be a bit more blue. I am reading and reading trying to decide what to do. Am going to try the EPO and then see the doc in a few weeks.

I also have something similar a little more toward the front of my lower lip and down almost in the crease where the lip meets the gum. I had mine checked out by 2 oral surgeons and mine is a hemangeoma. Just occured one day and certain foods make it harder than normal. It can also be very sore at times it is purplish blue and feels squishy but on the firm side. I need to have it removed but I have to be put under in the hospital o.r because of the chance for bleeding.

Hi, Yes that's a mucocele I'm afraid! You are lucky that it's not actually on your lip. I assume you bit the inside of your mouth when chewing at some point, or in your sleep without realising. Speaking from from experience, the best thing for you do is leave it and not try anything 'non doctor' prescribed as it may only make it worse and prolong the healing period! The annoying thing is waiting it out, your body will sort this problem out but due to the nature of the tissues where mucoceles pop up it's going to take longer to heal than a standard type of cut. Expect it to be there for a good eight weeks or longer. It may also change in size too, for better or worse. The longest time I had a mucocele like your was for over four months (before it healed), so I can sympathise with you completely! Once it starts going down it will be within a day or two once the tissue sorts itself out, and you should be back to normal!
