Woke up Sunday and everything was fine, then after a party (where I was in change of the smoking BarBQ) I noticed this lump on the roof of my mouth almost dead center of the palette.  It could have been there before but perhaps I was just now noticing it.  I don't remember traumatizing the area but then I don't remember every little detail of every day.

I have had a chest cold for about 3 weeks. Nothing major, but I cough up some fun stuff in the morning.  The rest of the day I am fine. It's getting warm in my area so the trees are beginning to bloom. I don't have bad allergies, but every once in a while I need to take something.  Regardless of that, I have never had a lump in my mouth before.

The bump is typically the color of my mouth, but when I play with it enough (with my tongue) it turns red.  It feels hard to my tongue but when I push on it with my finger it's playable. It's almost as if there is fluid under the skin, but without puncturing it I wouldn't know. It looks like it has a white tip like a pimple, but I can't tell if that is skin or under the skin.

What does anyone think?

Hello magnumvp:

From your picture, it kinda looks like a red patch rather than a bump or lump.  But,  taking a second look, it looks like three small white bumps located in the red area.  Mucoceles can appear at the top of your mouth on the soft palete. I had one. They are called superficial mucoceles.  To be sure, check with your dentist to get it confirmed.

Normally it's not red. It's red because I was playing with it. However in the past 24 hours it has shunk in size. I'm going to give it another few days to see where it goes. I'm not worried about it, just curius what it could be.

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Nope, this does not look like a Mucocele to me. It looks like you could have scraped it or scratched it with something like a potato chip or the sharp end of a french fry. I think the white tip, or head, is where you scratched it. Most Mucocele's have a bluish tinge to them. Since you indicated that yours is shrinking I would bet that it is not a Mucocele. I hope it continues to heal on it's own for you. God luck. P.S. You have nice teeth!

I can see the lump, but it doesn't look like a mucocele. I'd out up with it for a few more days and see what develops. Using a warm salt water mouth wash before bed may help reduce the swelling. If the lump gets bigger and looks like a blister don't pop it, leave it! Wait a few more days, maybe as many as ten and if the lump is still there see a doctor. Hopefully though what ever it is you have will sort itself out after four or five days.
