Most of the postings here deal with lip mucoceles. Anyone have experience with soft palate mucoceles? Had one removed a year ago by an ENT that was big and interfered with eating, swallowing, speaking and made me gag. Now have another one at the edge of the stitches from the first surgery. Can't face another surgery and recovery. Any home remedies when you can't reach the area in your mouth/throat where the mucocele is?

Yes I had a soft palate mucocele...well should I say ongoing.  Had it removed twice.  After three years ago, it started coming back, although much smaller and not as persistant.  You might talk to an oral surgeon rather than an ENT and see what they say....had mine done by an oral surgeon.

Hello softpalatemisery10:

I had a soft palate mucocele, at the roof of my mouth on the left side.  I tried evening primrose oil.  I did go to the dentist and an oral surgeon to get clarification and peace of mind.  I will say the evening primrose oil works well.  My mucocele went away and has not come back yet.  The oral surgeon did say that if it came back, he would want to remove it, but so far, it hasnt come back yet.

If you try the evening primrose oil, try little compresses.  I brought the EPO pills, cut one of the pills open, soaked a gauze with the oil and placed it over the mucocele while i got ready for bed.  I did this routine every night and noticed it get smaller and smaller.  Give it a try and let us know what happens

I checked with an oral surgeon but he said because of the location and gag reflex and big first surgery I have to see an ENT again. When you say that this mucocele is "smaller and less persistent" how often do you have it? Does it go through continuous filling up and bursting/inflammation cycles? Do you find avoiding salty, spicey, or acidic food helps? Have you given up on hard or dry foods?

The one I get know....it comes back every 2-3 weeks for a day or two.  It isn't big, and isn't as persistent.  I don't avoid foods, but i notice things like really sharp tomato sauce or some vinegary salad dressings seem to prompt a blooming.
