Just had mine removed 4 hours ago! (picture)
Hello all,
First off let me just say I tried all of the "home remedies" and none of them worked. Finally today I woke up and there it was again (I have 2 small ones on the lower lip) and I called my oral surgeon to look at it over my lunch break, crossing my fingers all day it wouldn't pop by the time I got there. I had gone to my dentist for cleanings/fillings a few times before and but he could not confirm it was a mucocele because it was recently popped. I've had them for over 4 months and I was frustrated to say the least.
I got to the oral surgeon today and he did confirm I had 2 mucoceles and said "want to take them out now?" Uhhhh, sure. He injected me and numbed it up a bit, waiting 5-10 minutes and then the fun began. Not going to lie, it was uncomfortable. There was pain and I'm still in pain. It took a little longer then I anticipated since there was 2. Lots of bleeding. Now I have a black crater in my mouth. He did not use stiches and wrote a prescription for vicodin (yay! haha). The nurse told me to keep it dry for 3 hours using gauze they provided me and warned me to stay away from spicy, salty, or citrus foods. They are doing a biopsy and I go back in a week for him to look at it and get the results. Back to the office I go with a mouth full of gauze. Needless to say i packed up my laptop and went home. My lip is swollen and I took a pill. The pain is still there but bearable. I'm hoping and praying this thing is gone for good! Good luck to all of you out there. ! Just thought I would share my story since I learned so much on this site!
It cost $400.00. I had to pay $130 up front and then they submit the rest to my insurance.
what procedure did he do?
The oral surgeon took both mucoceles out with a scalpel. Maybe I didn't have enough novacaine (or maybe I'm a wimp!) but it hurt! It's been almost a month and the numbness in my lip has finally gone away. There is still a small scar on the inside of my mouth that has not gone away yet, still healing.
The biopsy did come back and confirm it was a "ruptured mucocele."
