Two small white bumps inside lower lip!
I am worried sick about this. A few months ago was diagnosed with genital HPV and lesions, mild dysplasia, doctor is just keeping an eye on it. No big deal. A few days ago I noticed two small white bumps in my mouth. One sits right inside my lower lip and the other is down further closer to my gum line. Both are in line with where I tend to bite the inside of my lip. I went to dentist today, and he took pictures of them and wants to see me again in 2 weeks. This got me even more worried. He explained it was a virus and did not think it was cancer at all. He said it is probably due to a weakened immune system because I also have a large amount of plaque on my teeth, and he said that is often related to a weakened immune system too. Yes, I am stressed, I have marital troubles and 3 kids who are very demanding. I often don't eat right, or eat enough, and I am on the thinner side of what I should be. He said it the bumps in my mouth may go away on their own. If they don't in two weeks, he will refer to an oral surgeon. I guess in that case the oral surgeon would remove and biopsy them. I just can't get it out of my mind that perhaps this is oral cancer from my HPV infection (I have strain 16 which is the one that is risky for oral cancer). Even though he said "it's not cancer" (actually said those words), I am still really worried! Can just having HPV (meaning my immune system is already weak from that) bring on a virus in my mouth like that? I know someone who just died from oral cancer, it's terrifying to have to wait these 2 weeks to see if it goes away. The dentist did think I am making it worse by biting on it so I am trying really hard to leave them alone. They are pretty small and white - not painful, not itchy. i have no other symptoms. I do have my period right now, which tends to bring down my mood and my immune system I think.
Does it sound like a Mucocele?
These are exactly the same as mine, Same place size and colour
I went to the dentist his first words were 'this is outside the idea of what we would call normal"
I then began to get teary and he said " well in my opinion its nothing to worry about but we will send you tot he hospital for a second opinion"
I am confused ? Upon doing my own research mine and yours looks just like Leukoplakia
Sy, did you go to have it checked out further yet? Mine keep getting smaller- I don't know what to think! My dentist is re checking it next week. But now it's about half the size of this. I agree it looks like a Leukoplakia. Can you keep me posted on what they tell you it is? I will do the same... my appt is next Thursday.
Hi
I am waiting for a letter to go to hospital, I will keep you posted x
thanks, i will do the same for you - my appt for a re-check with the dentist is Wednesday. Sometimes mine appears to be going away, or is smaller, and other times it seems like the original size. This is so stressful! I actually made an appt with an oral surgeon - I would have liked to go right away after seeing my dentist but he insisted he wanted to wait 2 weeks to see if it has changed before referring me. I don't like having to wait :( I did schedule with an oral surgeon for Thursday in case my dentist does think I need to have it checked and unless it goes away on its own before Wednesday I will insist on the referral and go to that appt.
I can sympathise with you waiting is horrible, your mind races with preparing yourself for the worst.
My mum said yesterday she thinks mine is getting smaller but today it just looks as it did.
Just noticed mine has also a brown specs
Did your dentist give you any indication of what it might be?
Hope all goes well wed x
by the way, i forgot to log in, i am the same person who started the question.
