Scar Tissue Formation After Mucocele Removal - What Do I Do!?!!?!?
So it's been about a month since this whole fiasco began. I originally went to a walk-in clinic (I live in Canada, where thankfully, many health services are free), and the doctor told me it was an infection and gave me some antibiotics. This was to no avail. I then went to my family doctor and asked him if this lump was a mucocele as I had previously read posts on this website. He said that it wasn't. My gut told me otherwise and I went to my dentist who referred me to an amazing oral surgeon in Toronto. The oral surgeon confirmed what I had thought. MUCOCELE. He removed it with a scalpel and all the surrounding salivary glands, as to inhibit another from forming. He stitched it up and I was out $350 (Unfortunately, oral surgeons are NOT covered in Canada... so much for free health care!). 2
Now it has been 2 weeks since surgery and it is healing AMAZINGLY. I am SOSOSOSO glad I chose to get it removed. HOWEVER, there is this bump of scar tissue now forming where the doctor removed the mucocele. It is definitely not another mucocele, as it feels like tough scar tissue. You cannot notice it, but it I smile widely enough, you can see a bump poking out from my lower lip where the scar tissue is forming.
So my question is; has anyone else encountered this? Does it go away if I massage it as the oral surgeon has advised? What is this lump of scar tissue doing poking out of my lip and is it PERMANENT!?!?! I am freaking out! I am very self conscious and when I smile I feel like people can see this lump of scar tissue poking out from my lower lip!!! PLEASE HELP. ANY ADVISE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!!!!
